Boras is both players' agent. I'm not sure about Bay. Xavier's natural position is 3B, the only reason he's playing OF for us is because we're stacked with infielders. Also, he's among league leaders in Outfield Assists (or was) with 11. Bay is a great all-around player, he can steal bases and can hit for both power and average. Perez needs time to develop, right now, he's doing great as baseball's Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde.

If this deal DOES happen, then I think both teams will have accomplished what they had set out to do. For one, the Pads get their marquee outfielder and, in turn, the Pirates get some young players that can blossom. I'll miss watching Ollie's starts, but then again, he hasn't been as consistent (granted he's pitched much better after being called back up from AAA). The other players involved in the deal, Nady/Bay and Stewart, could all be good in due time.

At first, I didn't want Perez included in any trade talks but I've since changed my mind. There's just too many variables involved when talking about Perez's potential. Future ace or not, the Padres cant turn away a deal involving Perez for a bonified All-Star like Giles.

Here's to getting Brian Giles (hopefully), signing solid free agent pitchers, and bringing Oliver Perez back to SD when his contract expires...

If Dave Littlefield's plan works as he expects it to, the Pirates will blossom with their new young talent and they'll be able to sign these guys long term.

Maybe this means the Pirates will consider re-signing Reggie Sanders for another year or two and putting him in LF.

If this deal goes down, the Padres just got them quite a steal. I figure that they can become contenders pretty darn quick if a few things go right for them.

Yep, we get him, we only need to focus on a defensive catcher and a couple of starters in the offseason.

Thank you for Ben Davis by the way. He will be an allstar once Dan Wilson leaves town, or starts getting less playing time. He has a great arm, and has a good feel for hitting. Good player.
