Is a Giants-Rangers World Series good for MLB?

nothing against the giants, rangers, or their fans, but wouldnt this be a shocker???!!!, and it looks like its about to happen

i was actually rooting for the yankees becuz cliff lee and the rangers (barely) beat my Rays (wouldnt have if not for Lee)

IMO-the Phillies and the Yankees are the better of the 4 teams here and a rematch worldseries would be kool, but guess we may have Lincecum vs. Lee to look forward too

although i admit im a huge josh hamilton fan & supporter, so guess i'd root for texas to get their first ring

No, it's a terrible World Series for the MLB.

But I'm damn sure rooting for it.

Time (and the NFL) is the enemy of MLB more than anything. Anyone notice that the crappy Titans/Jags Monday nighter squashed Yankees/Rangers in the ratings? Remember when Toronto played in back-to-back World Series in 92/93? The US ratings alone for those games were better than every World Series that's been played since 1996!

The NFL has already become the National Pastime in the US so that issue is dead and gone. As for this potential matchup it'd be good for MLB n the sense that teams with smaller payrolls and lower profiles have a legit shot however on the same token it's bad because it will continue to encourage Selig and his cronies not to make reforms to the overall payroll structure of the league. This is reform that badly needs to be done but the more the "smart" teams advance this far the more MLB will ignore franchises that are owned by penny pinching bums who should be FORCED to at least compete on the field as well as in the pocketbook.

I'll be watching this matchup intensely as I like both franchises and i'll be cheering for Texas.

The people at MLB, and more than that the people at Fox, are rooting for the Yanks and Phils to come back in their series.

The thing about that is, if there's a controversial call by umpires in the remaining games that go in favor of the Yanks or Phils you damn well know the conspiracy theorists will come out of the woodwork.

Nah. I think 2003 put to bed any crazy thoughts about MLB manipulating outcomes. The hype/ratings for Cubs/Red Sox (or to a lesser extent, Cubs/Yankees) would've been bat**** insane. BOS/CHC would've been the most anticipated match-up in North American sports history. Alas.

I'm going to be interested to see what happens if the NFL/NBA experience the labor issues that are looming...if there is a strike with those two it will be a prime opportunity for baseball to win some fans.

The Giants have a small payroll?

If "smaller teams" are making it, then nothing "needs" to be done.

Giants/Rangers would be fun, but let's not get ahead of ourselves JUST yet.

Honestly, who cares if it's bad for MLB?

No matter how bad the ratings are: The game is still going to exist, they're still going to show the games on television, and I'm still going to watch.

Giants/Rangers would be very enjoyable for me.

Maybe. It's something different. Rangers have nice stories with Hamilton and the manager. Giants have characters with Wilson & Sandoval plus the young pitching staff that's been mostly lights out. There's lots of stuff to go on there.
