In reality both sides will cave in a little and Jeter will prbably sign a 4 year deal for $18 milllion per.
Well this deal is reportedly finalized, and it seems like I was so darn close to getting this right. 3 Years @ up to $17 million per, with a 4th year option type thing.

Yes Jeter signed for 3yrs appx $16/$17M a year with an option for a 4th year at a lesser amount.

I'll take it. The fourth year option at a lower amount with incentives to drive it up to $17 MM is ideal.

At that point, I think Jeter will have to take the Pettitte route.

I really wish I could have sat in the meetings and just hear what the Yankees said to get Jeter to understand that Rodriguez's contract was a stupid mistake. (Not the actual signing. Yankees needed his offense. The years are horrible).

Cashman: "Look man, we screwed up giving Alex that kind of contract. Too many years and too much money. We don't have the money to give you. This is a business try to understand our point of view"

Jeter: "If you don't have the money lets talk about the $140 million you are rumored to have offered Cliff Lee"

Cashman: "(awkward silence)...So how does 3 years with an option sound?"

Good news. Even as a Sox fan I could not picture Jeter in another uniform.

But we all knew it was going to happen regardless.

Well to be fair, I believe A-Rod only opted out to begin with, because he thought Boston would welcome him with open arms and offer him a billion dollars to come play for them. Instead they resigned Lowell. Yankees had A-Rod by the balls at this point, because nobody in the league was going to pay him close to what he wanted. Yet they still caved and gave him one of the single dumbest contracts in the history of sports, maybe THE dumbest. He'll be making more money than Evan Longoria made last year, when he's 42 years old.

It doesn't matter though, they have all the money they need. They gave Jeter a deal that is more than fair, for his past service and for the state his game is in right now at his age. They also gave Rivera a lot of money, despite it only being two years, that's A LOT of money for a closer, even if it's the best closer in the game. And that's all on top of the boatload they're going to pay for Lee. They're quietly spending a ton of money this off season, when it's all said and done.

This is great news indeed. I didn't want to see him get his 3000th hit in another uniform.

Nah there're better shortstops for 1/3 of the cost who can hit around .250 with more range

I saw Jeter's comments today and I had to laugh at his "woe is me, my feelings are hurt" portrayal. It was HIS agent that first made everything public. Maybe he should be complaining to the agent.

Oh well...even though I hate the Yanks i'm glad to see that Jeter will end his career in pinstripes.
