Oh, no? They didn't make a big deal out of Ichiro's ROY.
If you have given it to Jap. players in the past, the least you could is maintain consistency. You want to change the rules, do it BEFORE the season, Not halfway or by the end.

Why do people think Japanese players shouldn't win the ROY?
The award was named after Jackie Robinson.
" I look at him and it's getting to the point where it's just scaring me. He looks younger but he doesn't carry himself in a younger manner. He's impressive, and I'm glad we drafted him. "
    - Lavar Arrington on his new Redskins teammate Sean Taylor.

Any player who has EVER won the ROY has been playing professional baseball. From the rookie leagues to AAA, all rookies who win the award have been playing professionally for, usually, at least 2 years.

Let's face it; professional baseball in Japan is not on par with that of the USA. I believe that Japan's league is about the equivalent of somewhere between AA and AAA. Therefore, I do believe that all newcomers to the majors should be considered for the ROY and this includes those who have previously played in Japan.

Although Matsui should win the Rookie of the year awards I dont think it should be given to players who have already played professional ball in Japan.

They are not changing anything about the rule they are just now enforcing it more. Ichiro should have never won and now matsui is not going to win about time.

If you played professionally like in Japan and come over you are not a rook.

How are you not a rookie? Like I said, all players who play in the minors are playing professionally and they are considered rookies when they get to the majors. Why shouldn't you be if you played professionally in Japan?

Actually there was a huge fuss over Ichiro's ROY. C.c. Sabathia had an amazing year. 17-6 I believe. Those are pretty close to ace stats and he didn't even get the ROY.
