When Ichiro won the ROOK he was head and shoulders above any other (traditional) rookie of that year-- Hell, he was the best player in the game. This season though, Matsui is a hair better than Texeira in my opinion... so, it's a tough call, but listening to AI's humbled and impassioned plea for his screwed over yanks sure is swaying my vote.

And there was a lot of chatter about Ichiro winning the award when he won it, and Nomo also. Just because you have selective memory AI doesn't mean the rest of us should.

Yeah, I'm making a "stink" because Matsui is a Yankee player. And because I got involved, I realized that Jap. plyers are as big of a rookie, as anyone else. At least, by rule they're.
Now, I'm not going to stay quiet while my guy gets screwed by the same guys who voted for Ichiro. You wanna change it after Matsui won it, no problem. But he better not get the shaft, because now that there is a Yankee in the mix, they have to make some changes.

And yes, I do feel proud that my franchise is the best in all of sports.

Relax, they aren't going to change the ruling by the end of this year. Personally, I think they should change the ruling after this season, just because that really wouldn't be fair to Matsui. That being said, I still don't think he is a rookie and they should therefor change the ruling after this year.

Yankee fans are idiots. First, there should be an age limit of 25. Second, even with out an age limit, Matsui should finish no better than 4th for the ROY. Angel Berroa, Jody Gerut, Mark Texieira, and Rocco Baldelli all easily are better candidates at this point. Baldelli is 1st in avg, Matsui is 2nd. Matusi does lead OBP by a few points. Matsui is 4th in HR's and the only reason he leads the RBI category is because of the lineup in New York.
Here's the real litmus test...if Matsui was in Texas, would he win the award? NOPE! And you KNOW it.
He'll probably win the ROY, but he won't deserve it...not one bit!

I'd certainly put Jody Gerut in front of Teixeira for ROY.
                        Here are their numbers:

                        Teixeira: .253AVG, 22HR, 73RBI, .328OBP, .464SLG, 107/40 K/BB

                        Gerut: .280AVG, 21HR, 72RBI, .337OBP, .506SLG, 64/32 K/BB

Also, Gerut's playing in a lineup with 8 rookies in it regularly. He also has 41 less at-bats (16 games).

                              So much ignorance.

The ROY award was named for Jackie Robinson.

Well guess what people, when JR won the inagural ROY he had previously been playing in - you guessed it - another professional league!

By both precedent and definition, Ichiro and Matsui were/are both eligible for ROY.

It doesn't matter where you play. Japan, Negro leagues, Europe, AAA. The step up to MLB is ENORMOUS. Anyone playing MLB for the first time is a rookie to both the league and the MLB style of baseball itself.

I really have to wonder if some of you aren't just pissed that foreigners are coming in and taking "your" award.

I mean after all, if you want to whine about Ichiro and Matsui, you must think that Jackie Robinson was undeserving as well.
