Jody Gerut should win ROY but wont, Matsui will win it whether or not he should be considred a rookie or not is all matter of opinion, such is the same for any award,
some say pujols is MVP some say Bonds, i guess its up to the writers to decide.

Re: What is all the BS I\'m hearing about Matsui not elligible for ROY?

First, for the age limit thing, no way. Scott Podsednik is one of the leaders for the NL ROY, and he's like 27. It just took him awhile to bloom.

But, I do believe that players shouldn't be able to come over from Japan and be considered rookies, and I'm saying that with Ichiro being my favorite player.

People keep saying that Japan is equal to our minor league system...well then why is it that when one of them signs with a MLB club, they seem to succeed so quickly? Ichiro, Kaz, and Matsui were all ROYs their first year. I don't know whether or not Nomo was, but he's been a dominant pitcher for years now(quite underrated too).

I know that through the minor league system we have guys who come up and do good, but it's not even close to the ratio as Japanese players who come here and do good...although few do actually come over here.

Personally, I'd say give the ROY award to a true rookie...Baldelli, Gerut, Berroa, Teixera, whoever...but not Matsui....but I know Matsui will win it in the end just like Kaz and Ichiro did.

Personally, I don't care if he's eligible or not, I don't think he's got the numbers to win ROY anyway... guys batting under .300 only got 16 homers, hell, Craig Wilson is putting up better numbers for the Buccos. The only DRASTIC difference is RBI's, and that's garbage, because look at Matsui's supporting cast and Craig Wilson's.

NOTE: I AM NOT SAYING CRAIG SHOULD BE ROY, I'm merely making fact that his numbers are NOT that hard to replicate.

If you don't even know that there's an AL and NL ROY then maybe you shouldn't be in this conversation.

That being said, I never even thought of Matsui as AL ROY. I like Baldelli a lot. He's helped change that Tampa Bay team. If he had a better supporting cast, we might be talking about an Ichiro type season (MVP and ROY). But, that won't happen because people still think Ichiro is the most influential player in the game and Tampa Bay sucks.

I'm aware of the separate ROY's... my comparison was only because Craig is a platoon player putting up similar numbers. If Matsui played anywhere OTHER than NY, he would be getting about the same attention as Hee Sop Choi.
