Re: Felix Hernandez
I think Felix is worth more than that.
One guarantee and two probables makes me cringe for Seattle. I think if they move Hernandez, they need guaranteed good players. Not saying the guys should be better than Felix, but they should be more than serviceable players.
I'm excited for ManBan and Montero but I won't believe the hype till they deal with it.

Re: Felix Hernandez
If Kevin Towers had Felix Hernandez to trade, he'd probably settle for a wild left-handed starter who ultimate barely makes it as a reliever in AAA, a #3 starter who turns out to be the best player of the group, a middle reliever, and an over-age Single-A starter.
In any case, Felix Hernandez currently is one of the top starting pitchers in baseball and at 24/25 has a lot of great years ahead of him. Unless the Mariners absolutely have to trade him, all these considered he'd net more than the Johan Santana, Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, or Jake Peavy trades of recent years. It'll be interesting what offers Seattle gets if they do put him on the market.Comment

Re: Felix Hernandez
I just don't see Felix being traded. Through all the losing, the guy hasn't stopped expressing his love for Seattle and wanting to retire with his childhood team. He's a smart enough guy to understand this is going to take time and he said he's willing to wait for the stockpiling of talent to pay off (he only turns 25 tomorrow). Anyone with half a brain is able to see the success Jack Z has had in his two drafts in Seattle and the success the M's have had the last 6-7 years with international signings. They could easily be contending with young talent by the time his contract expires.
Of course players backtrack on these things all the time, but I get a different feeling with Felix. We'll see.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

That would be seriously undervaluing Felix. He's worth the Royals' whole farm system, or something like Bryce Harper, Stephen Strasburg, and Ryan Zimmerman with how cost-controlled he is.NFL: Indianapolis Colts (12-6)

Re: Felix Hernandez
There's no way Washington would give up Strasburg for Hernandez. That's too much a push of potential to even look into that type of deal. In fact, I'd say Washington wouldn't even move Zimmerman to acquire Hernandez. The deal just doesn't make sense for Washington.
I do think that kind of deal is beyond the ideal asking price for Hernandez. But, I think the Mariners, if they ever entertained the thought of trading Hernandez, should definitely reach for the stars."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: Felix Hernandez
Really? What are the odds of Strasburg staying healthy enough to throw 190+ innings in 5 different seasons? An ace in the hand is worth two on the 60-day DL.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. I made my comment without also pointing out that Seattle wouldn't make that trade. At least I don't see why they would. Well maybe for Zimmerman, but I seriously doubt Washington would trade Zimmerman for Hernandez in a straight up deal let alone adding two A prospects.
As for Strasburg straight up for Hernandez, Washington would be getting the better pitcher now, but their brass likely believes Strasburg will be the better pitcher later.
And to add to that, there is no proof that Strasburg will be healthy, but neither is there for Hernandez. To me, trading on fear is a terrible mistake.
It's far too early in Strasburg's career to think that this one injury will continue to linger or seriously derail his potential.
If he becomes the pitcher he can be (and he was a pretty damn good one as a rookie) what advantage does Washington have in making that deal?
I should add that this is based on my own thinking. I dont expect all 30 GMs to think alike or one to think like me. And that's overlooking the hundred million GMs that watch the game.

That should be the same question Seattle would have to ask itself.

I certainly hope Strasburg comes back and has a dominant career. I'd certainly love to see him in person. But if given the choice between Hernandez and Strasburg over the next 10 years, I have no doubt that all 30 GMs would take Felix. It's just far more likely that Felix is going to provide more quality innings over the next decade.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Re: Felix Hernandez
Certainly get that point. I think every GM definitely says they want Hernandez over Strasburg. My hang up is that what you want is different than what you do.
Not the best analogy but I see Strasburg for Hernandez almost like Jeter for Pujols.
