    Re: 4/18 - 4/24 Game Discussion Thread

Jake Westbrook continues to struggle, Cards down 4-0 to the Nats in the 3rd, runners on the corners and one out.

*Edit - Make that 5-0 and runners still on the corners with 1 out.

**Edit - 6-0, Nats steal 2nd then as the throw goes they steal home.

This is not what you want on a double header day, this game is going to eat our bullpen alive unless they just decide to let this one go and make Westbrook take one for the team.

***Edit - 7-0 RBI double Pudge, Westbrook ugh.

Inning over finally, Tony has Salas up in the pen don't like that at all, we don't really have any long relievers right now with Augenstein on the DL so if he does make a change to Salas this early our pen is going to be toast for game 2.

      Holy hell...

Milwaukee can be downright scary once they're at full tilt.

Once they get Grienke back, then maybe work a deal before the deadline for a Heath Bell or something...scary contenders.

Adrian Gonzalez did a full-page ad similar to that here in San Diego the day after he was traded. Just wanted to point it out. I'm not sure if Hoffman or Peavy did the same, but most likely they did as well.

They need more than just a closer. Their whole bullpen will spoil any friskiness their offense shows over the long haul.

Ugh Westbrook only lasts 3 innings and Tony had to go to the pen, he is just terrible and this is pretty much the worst case scenario when you have another game later tonight.

Westbrook goes 3 innings with 7 ER raising his ERA to 9.82

We let 'em off the hook!

Blergh. Well, 2 wins is better than I was expecting from that series, so that's good.

Cards trail 7-2, getting their runs via the long ball as Albert hit a solo shot back in the 3rd and now Rasmus hits a solo shot in the 5th.

Cards cut into the Nats lead a bit in the 6th, bases loaded and Theriot gets an RBI infield single, then Rasmus gets a 2 RBI single to make it 7-5, Pujols came to the plate with runners on the corners and 2 outs but flew out to LF to end the inning.

Salas with 3 big innings out of the pen for us, now hopefully we can finish this out without using up too many more relievers.

*Edit - Franklin making his first appearance since being removed from the closers role, and gets Ankiel to fly out to left to start things off. Gets Werth to flyout to shallow right, two down. LaRoche grounds out to first.

Nice first appearance for Franklin outside the closers role, hopefully he can build off of it.

Ellis drops what would've been a sure Web Gem/Top Play from Pennington on the diving stop, as he tried to get the double play before he ever had the ball.

Beautiful play by Pennington, but everyone is safe.

Wow, we actually held onto the lead there. Thought for sure Marshall was going to walk in the tying run.

Even though the Sox lost last night, it was a good performance by Lackey... Buchholz was the final one to seem to have settled in, and is pitching well so far too.

All 5 in their most recent starts have had fantastic quality starts and only allowed 1 earned run each, where Dice-K allowed none.

Lets hope the pitching keeps up, and the bats come alive more... though Oakland has fantastic pitching, so this is to be expected. Great pitching always silences great hitting.

Tony lets Franklin go another inning and he gives up a homer to Nix, 8-5 Nats.
