Giving it to a player on a bad team is like a Wii game getting an overall best graphics award because it's the best looking game on the Wii.
Wouldn't "overall best graphics" be the same as "best player in the league" ?

    You're contradicting yourself there.

And if a player is the most valuable to his team, why does it matter if the team has a good record or not? That shouldn't play a role in MVP voting at all

No where in your repeating of "to the team" does it say anything about the team being required to be a division winner.

And when did .500 in the East make for a "bad team?"

Lets say, for example, that at the beginning of the year Gonzalez and Bautista switched teams. Would the Sox and Blue Jays standings in the division be flip-flopped right now as well?

Why should you penalize a player for playing on an average/below average team? That's not something he can always control.

The MVP to me means which player has the most value to "any" team. As in, which one guy would you want to have on your team for the given season, regardless of the team he plays for.

I think "MVP" is kind of stupid. It should be who the best player is, regardless of team.

Lets not forget that Kemp is putting up these numbers with no pressure involved unlike players on teams where the games actually matter, with that i'll take Upton as my MVP.

Just curious, anyone seen his home/road splits? It's pretty bad.

The team has to have value for the player to be valuable to them.

No a Wii game winning best overall isn't like best player. Because it was most valuable to the Wii it won but it's not Crysis 2 is it?

Yeah, because having no pressure on a player suddenly makes a 95mph fastball easier to hit

It's not like it's any easier to play the game just because you're on a crappy team (although the Dodgers certainly rebounded from where they were).

So because the Dodgers aren't in contention Matt Kemp shouldn't win MVP? He has a chance of winning triple crown but no MVP? Do you have any idea what you're talking about?

Yes,I'm talking about the player who is most valuable to their team. Not who's the best player. Not who hits the most HRs,RBIs,highest AVG. or has most stolen bases. Kemp can certianly have the silver slugger award.

So again...where's the value? They're still not .500 without him. 20 walk off HRs on a first place team is better than 80 on a last place team.

I am willing to bet if the Dodgers had a lineup of 8 Matt Kemps they would be WELL above .500.

So if Matt Kemp was put on the Phillies or Brewers and had the exact same stats as he does now, he would be the MVP? It's not his fault his team is bad, It's not like he's the GM or anything.

I'm pretty sure if a guy hits 80 walk-off homers, his team won't be in last place.
