The only way the Tigers are this high is if Scherzer pitches like he did the 2nd half of 2010/first half of 2011. And Porcello has to pitch like he is capable of. Both of these guys, with some consistency, are great 3-4 starters and would make Detroit a top 5 rotation. But we will see how they do this year. They were up and down literally every single month last year.
I worry about Fister this year. He's a pitch to contact type of guy, and that defense behind him might impact his production this year.

Scherzer has the stuff, but he seems like he's got so much movement, he has a hard time locating. I never know what I am gonna see from him from one start to another. But he has the capability to be dominant.

Off the top of my head I don't know what type of numbers Porcello put up last year, I just know that every time I saw him pitch, he got hit pretty hard. Don't know if it was the luck of the draw and those were just the games I saw, but the times I saw him pitch he had a tough time getting guys out.

Either way, I don't see anyway this is a top 5 rotation.

Porcello had a weird year. This is his ERA from month to month.

        4.25
        3.52
        6.97
        3.06
        6.82
        3.55

Scherzer was the same way. He had a 30 start stretch from 2010 to 2011 where he had 30 starts, a 2.70 ERA in 175 innings. He's shown the ability to be consistent from start to start despite his erradic delivery. For whatever reason he couldn't keep it together last year.

I think Fister will be fine. The Tigers defense isn't that much worse than last year. They downgraded at third base, but they will be a little better in LF because Delmon Young will DH more. Also, Inge is bound to keep some at bats at 2nd base so that helps defensively. Plus, I don't think Fister gives up to many hard hits as it is. A lot of routine hit balls when he is on the mound. A sub 3 ERA? I dont know. But I have no doubts he can keep it around 3.50 and rack up a lot of innings.

So if Porcello/Scherzer figure it out, if if if if, you have 4 guys throwing 200 innings with sub 4 ERA's. If somehow that happened, they'd be one of the best. We'll have to wait and see.

Those 3 all racking up 200 innings with sub 4 ERA's is a long shot at best.

I think Fister and Porcello can do that this season...both those guys are groundball pitchers and I don't think the infield defense is as bad as everyone makes it out to be, Prince looked pretty capable over there yesterday with those nice picks he had. Miggy won't have great range, but he will make the plays he can get to and Jhonny is a very underrated defender imo. And the guy at 2nd (whoever JL runs out there) will be just fine with the glove.

But Max I don't know, he's the X-Factor for them on the mound this year. If Max as an ERA somewhere around 4 with about 170-180 innings I'll be happy. He was a huge reason why Detroit got to the ALCS last year, him and Fister's playoff performances were nothing short of dominant almost everytime they took the mound.

Theres no way, with that rotation, and stars of Smoak, Ackley, Montero, Carp, and Franklin, F. Mart, Seager, and tons more comung up theres just no way, and if you listen to any Felix interviews and know him, he hates the Yankees, and Sox, he dosent like big market teams, and loves seattle he lives there, i bet he pulls an Ichiro and stays there for his career, wheather or not they win or lose, but i gaurentee they will be in the play offs next year and by 2014 they win the World Series.

Well what about Detroit, Kansas City (who has more up-and-coming superstars than Seattle), Cleveland (they're about 2 years away), New York, Boston, Tampa, Toronto? All those teams are built to be good for years to come here...and I can't imagine Seattle's offense being able to make up for the young guys in the rotation when they have an off day (which happens with talented young guys, see Rick Porcello and Max Scherzer.) And I don't see Texas and LA going away anytime soon, the core of those teams are a bunch of young, locked up talent (especially Texas.)

I think Seattle is going in the right direction, but WS by 2014...maybe in The Show, but in RL that's just as likely as the Cubs winning in 2013.

Uhh not really, its obvious the M's will have one of the best rotations in baseball by 2013 since you know, the King is a top 5 pitcher, and Walker being compared to Dwight Gooden, and Hultzen, and Paxton almost major league ready, and their all under 25... plus a line up with Ackley, Carp, Smoak, and Montero, how is that bad? We have a young *** team, with good player right on the edge on being called up to the majors..
