    Soriano...worst FA ever?

There are others to argue for...but the combination of salary and "wont-just-go-away-and-they-keep-playing-him" my vote goes to Soriano.

He is not a complete negative. but... his production is so hollow. He may carry a team for 1 week to even 1 month, but the inconsistencies that are part of his reckless approach at the plate outweigh all that.

I know it's one game...but...here is Soriano tonight.

Top 1: Ends the inning, runner on 1st
    A. Soriano grounded into double play third to second to first, S. Castro out at second

Top 3: Ends the inning, runners on 1st and 2nd
    A. Soriano struck out swinging

Top 5: Ends the inning, runners on 1st and 2nd
    A. Soriano popped out to shallow right

Flied out (to shallow right) to lead off the 8th...Castro was on base 3 times in front of him, but struck out to end the 7th. I can only imagine he said to himself, "screw this, I'll save him the trouble..."

I mean...you're in HOUSTON!!! and you can't even make a loud out?

Andruw Jones, hit less than his fat *** weight with the Dodgers, gone a year after being signed. Much worse than Soriano.

Or Jason Schmidt. Not sure if healthy at all during his tenure with the Dodgers. Worse than Soriano.

      I hear ya...but you're missing my point.

Jones was gone after one year...

      Soriano, on the other hand...

Jones was like a stomach virus or the flu....Soriano is more like tuberculosis or Crohn's Disease.

Soriano has been at least productive early on, he is just getting older now. Andruw Jones gave LA nothing, and was being paid years after release.

Soriano has provided more WAR to the Cubs than Zito has to the Giants, both signed during the same offseason for about the same money.

At least Soriano provided one excellent season, to go along with a couple pretty good years, while Zito has never provided anything better than back-of-the-rotation results.

I don't know if Zito's is the worst, but it's certainly worse than Soriano's.

            Alb... Too soon?

Don't forget that Soriano is also one of the worst fielders I have ever seen. Way to drop that flyout.

              Um, Mike Hampton anyone?

Now THAT was a horrible FA signing.

                Chan Ho Park.

Park went 9–8 in 25 starts, with a 5.75 ERA. The following season, he only started seven times due to injuries, going 1–3 with a 7.58 ERA.

Hampton's deal was nothing short of highway robbery...I think it was like a 7 yr deal where he maybe made 7 starts?

First two that come to mind are Carl Crawford and Darren Dreifort.

Dreifort wasn't a big FA signing, he was a Dodger farm hand. Basically the deal to give DePodesta the door. I would say Jones and Schmidt were worse.

If I recall, it was a 4 or 5 year, 55 million dollar contract and that was a pretty big deal for a pitcher at the time.

The worst free agent ever was Jason Schmidt.

The Dodgers gave him a three-year deal worth $47 million. He ended up making 10 starts for the Dodgers; posting a 3-6 record with an ERA just south of 6.

He was paid $4.7 million per start. That's much worse than Soriano. I know you're a Cubs fan and all, but no one can touch that.

Well, the Mets are paying Bobby Bonilla (retired 11 years ago) $1.2 million per season until 2035...

OK then, I'd argue that Chone Figgins has been much worse than Soriano.

At least he has a few decent seasons with the Cubs... Figgins has been an absolute disaster ever since signing with the M's.
