I was contemplating adding Adrian Beltre's Mariners contract to the list, but it's becoming apparent that Safeco Field was the reason for his dip in prodcution.
A little surprised you would mention Beltre and not mention Chone Figgins or Carlos Silva... Truthfully, Adrian Beltre's contract is not even in the discussion. It was actually a pretty good signing for the M's.

Beltre was probably the best 3B the M's have ever had. Safeco Field definitely had an effect on his offensive production, but he was still solid, averaging 20 HR and 80 RBI per season during his five years here. Those numbers would be higher but he had an injury plagued 2009 season where he only had 8 HR and 44 RBI while playing in only 111 games. If you take that season away, he was good for 25 HR and 90 RBI per year while playing Gold Glove defense at 3B. He was fun to watch and I wish the M's would have held on to him.

Silva was a disaster and Figgins' $36M deal has been a colossal bust. On a lesser scale, Sexson's deal wasn't the greatest, but it doesn't compare to the Silva and Figgins contracts.

Richie Sexson at least produced for a couple of years with the Mariners

        2005: .263, 39 HR, 121 RBI
        2006: .264, 34 HR, 107 RBI

Andruw Jones signed a 2 year 36.2 million dollar deal.

In the two years with LA, here were his statistics:

          2008 .158 3 HR 14 RBIs Struck out 76 times in 75 games. OBP of .256
          2009 Sent to Texas

LOL, yeah. That's pretty bad. Roughly $12 million per home run, $2+ million per RBI. It probably doesn't get much worse than that.

This thread has been enlightening... I knew there had been some bad FA signings over the years, but never thought there were this many.

Soriano isn't even the Cubs' worst free agent signing let alone worst ever.

Cubs have had quite a few stinkers.

Todd Hundley's contract was terrible too.

4 years at $24 million and I don't think he even hit over .200 in any of those seasons. Then for some reason or another the Dodgers took him off our hands.

To this day I still don't understand the rational behind signing Andruw Jones to that contract. No other team had to of even been close to those numbers, and I bet Andruw and his agent were all like "OMG WE ACCEPT WE ACCEPT, HURRY SIGN BEFORE THEY REALIZE WHAT THEY ARE DOING!"

Since Alex Rodriguez opted out of his contract after 2007 he was technically a free agent when the Yankees gave him 10 years and $270 million or whatever.

Does Daisuke Matsuzaka count? Red Sox paid an arm and a leg for an injury prone middle-end of the rotation starter

No mention of Russ Ortiz? 4 years 33 million to sign with Arizona

                                2005: 5-11 6.89 ERA
                                2006: 0-5 7.54 ERA

D'Backs DFA him in June of 2006 with 2 1/2 years and 22 million left on his contract. A MLB Record.
I dont remember there names but they were allot of fun....
