Hampton actually had an amazing first half of the season for the Rockies in 2000, but then fell apart. He was an All Star that year, just was special to start the year off.
Fell off the face of the planet though, I think he was 9-2 with an ERA in the 2.00's at one point that year, finished 14-13 with an ERA over 5.00.
Next year, even worse and he was gone. He just never would have long term sustainability in Colorado with the way he pitches.
Crawford looks HORRIBLE now for the Red Sox.
I remember Dreifort's contract being really big at the time for pitchers. I thought he'd stick as a solid #3 pitcher, but his contract paid him like an ace.
As for Soriano, yeah I never understood his deal he got. Good player, great hitter as a 2B, but as an OF that moves to above-average-ish.
Now Andruw Jones, that was a terrible signing. Also, Andruw is a perfect example of how a guy can lose it so fast. 51 homeruns, 41 homeruns, and then 26 and never topping 20 again. I just don't see how you can get a guy $14,000,000 coming off a season where he played 154 games, hit .222 with 26 homeruns, OBP of .311 and an OPS of .724.
