Doesn't have anything to do with how good he is, and everything to do with the ridiculousness of using your best arm in that situation.

Actually, I guess it does have to do with how good he is. He's much too good to be wasted there.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: 5/28 - 6/3 Game Discussion Thread
I've ranted about it before, but you try telling a hitter to get base hits off the pitches you want to throw, given the assurance that you will still get the no-hitter no matter how many walks you allow. You think Jonathan Sanchez is so dominant that his BAA always seems to be in the top three in his respective league? It's just the fact that he never throws over the plate.
I can throw a no-hitter, too. Even with 100 walks, I can still get it. As I've said in the past, it's unfortunate that there's no way to differentiate the different ways you can get a no-hitter, and it's extremely unfortunate when they mention it under the same breath as "perfect game," which is an incredibly more difficult feat.
I'm not taking away anything from the fact that he threw a no-hitter, but there are better and worse no-hitters. Five walks allowed is a "worse" one IMO.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: 5/28 - 6/3 Game Discussion Thread
I'm pretty sure a major league hitter could hit one of your pitches over the plate even if your arm lasted long enough to walk 100 guys, so no, I do not think you could throw a no-hitter. Of course there are better and worse no-hitters. But a no-hitter is a no-hitter. At some point you have to throw to guys that, at worst get a hit 2 times out of 10 tries. Even the most dominant no-hitters and perfect games have a bit of luck involved at some point.
I'm glad the Mets fans got to see this at their home park. To have over 8,000 games as a franchise without a no-hitter is ridiculous.Comment

No...you couldn't.

Anyway, as I said... my post wasn't meant to take away from the fact that he threw a no-hitter. I just wish I got to celebrate/congratulate it with the thought that it was a little closer to having a "must challenge each and every hitter" mindset.
LOL I hope the point was taken in spite of that statement.Last edited by Blzer; 06-01-2012, 11:01 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: 5/28 - 6/3 Game Discussion Thread
Interesting opinion piece on the Denver Post after Tulowitzki hurt his groin again
Tulowitzki is a third baseman waiting to happen. Not this season. But soon. Sooner than he or the Rockies dare think.
Alex Rodriguez, one of the top five home-run hitters in major-league baseball history, switched from shortstop to third base at age 28. Tulowitzki will celebrate his 28th birthday in October.
His body is telling Tulowitzki that the move is inevitable. What's more, the transition could also be extremely beneficial to the Rockies. For the worst part of a decade, whenever Vinny Castilla was not manning the position, this franchise's third baseman has been straight out of an Abbott and Costello routine: I Don't Know.
Just as the Rockies were awakening from a spring-long funk, Tulowitzki landed Thursday on the 15-day disabled list with a strained groin.
If there's any legitimate criticism of his brilliant career, it's bad luck with injury. Tulowitzki was limited to 101 games in 2008 and 122 games in 2010. He plays the game like there's no tomorrow. We love the attitude but hate it when he's on the shelf.
Shortstops are not supposed to be built like Popeye. While he can chase down a grounder in the hole with the artistry of a Mikhail Baryshnikov pirouette, Tulowitzki could live in a yoga studio and have trouble keeping his tightly wound muscles loose.
...
While he doesn't want to think about it now, Tulowitzki will be a third baseman at some point in his career. The Rockies could wait five years down the road, but why let the heavy workload of shortstop accelerate diminishing returns in offensive production over time?

It's hard to believe with the caliber of pitchers that the Mets have had over the years that this is their first.
Man, I hope the Baxter kid is okay. Any early reports on him? Just saw the replay and he got every bit of that wall.Comment

Unless you're a guy like Verlander or Halladay, that is not the approach you should be taking as a pitcher. You can't hold pitching around certain hitters against a pitcher.Comment
