It wasn't just that he didn't pick him. He said that he would in an interview because he wanted to give the hometown fans someone to root for. Then he back tracked and didn't. If he had never said that, there would be zero problems. That's what the national media isn't getting.

But yes, the fact he's a Yankee doesn't help.

Seriously, who cares? I though that was pretty stupid, it's the freaking Hr Derby. This is the same place that booed Bill Self in a celebrity softball game, lol tough crowd.

I'd be willing to bet Cano gets cheered tonight.

No one hates the guy, we were just miffed about wanting to see Billy and Cano going back on his word.

When you're a fan of a crappy team, stuff like that matters. For us, eliminating the Red Sox last year was just as good as finishing over .500.

That's the whole point, isn't it? It's just the freaking HR Derby. It doesn't mean anything. So what is the reason behind not picking Billy Butler?

Secondly, I don't think you quite understand the Border War.

Yeah. They have a reason to still hate Kansas. This hatred has been passed down for generations and is now felt in this rivalry.

Seems like a pretty good decision to me. Posey is Cain's catcher. Cain threw a perfect game. Dickey coming out the bullpen after a few normal pitchers have thrown will throw off the AL's timing even more than a normal ASG usually does.

Cano picked a good team too. Everyone from the AL but 1 person made it to the second round...

Nothing against Cain, but Dickey is an incredible story this season and may not have a chance again, while Cain and Strasburg have many more All-Star appearances to come. I assume they'll save Dickey for the later innings when Ruiz is catching.

I knew a little about that history, but that was interesting to read none the less, but I doubt many fans knew that piece of history, and it was more of a college rivalry thing then anything. I'm not chastising Royals fans, it just seemed silly, and pointless. Plus, like justblaze said below me, Cano picked a good cast, who should he have dropped to open a spot for Butler? Now looking back maybe Cano should have excluding himself after that performance.

What bugged me last night was the decision to interview Cain during Cargo's time to hit. Its not like they cant slot in an hour ahead of the derby to interview whoever, or is the 10th cycle of Sportscenter that necessary

I have no interest in any of the games outside of watching the Rockies players and ESPN took a dump on it last night for the likely reason of him being on a smaller market team. McCutchen I heard got the same treatment when it was his turn.

Yep, there were a few instances where they missed an at bat, It was really an uninspiring night. The Captain's might as well have not shown up, Berman was annoying, Stanton wasn't there.

I honestly enjoyed the celebrity softball game more.
