One of the worst fielding shortstops of this era.

However, he has been such a prolific hitter that he is a stone cold lock as a first ballot Hall of Famer. He's just not "as good" as some folks would lead you to believe. His defense really is THAT bad and he plays a position where defense is the most important trait.

Pretty good list, right here. Vinnie Pestano is a very good choice. Been lights out for Cleveland out of their pen the last couple of years.

I'll also say Gio Gonzalez is underrated.

Underrated: Almost any second baseman. To name a few, Chase Utley, who wins this title by a factor of 234234234 for being deprived of multiple Gold Gloves and MVPs; Ben Zobrist, who compiled top 10 seasons in the AL among position players 2 of the past 3 seasons and received fewer 1st place MVP votes than Michael Young.

Overrated: Michael Young, who is basically the anti-Chase Utley. I'll also throw in Ichiro's hitting ability, if it counts as an entry. It annoys me that a singles hitter won as many Silver Sluggers as Mark McGwire and Jeff Bagwell.

If you had posted that after the 2009 season you'd be dead on about Markakis. He put together three really good seasons. His offense has fallen off since, but he's still an above average hitter and a Gold Glove outfielder. Never did get any credit. Anyway:

Underrated: Adam Jones, Brandon Phillips, Josh Willingham, Jose Altuve

I can see why people would think Jeter is overrated I guess, but not all the way. I mean, the guy has a fantastic bat for his position. He's not the worst fielding shortstop in the history of baseball like some would have you believe. Does he deserve his gold gloves? No, but is he a detriment to the team? I don't think so and his bat certainly makes up for it. I think Jeter is overrated among casual baseball fans, and I think he is thought of just as he should be by most around here and other hardcore baseball fans. He is a great offensive shortstop, and probably a below average to average at best defensive shortstop. Having said that, the acolades speak for themselves.

Calling Jeter an average defensive shortstop is a slap in the face to average defensive shortstops.

Perhaps. Maybe because I see so much of him I'm kind of desensitized to his shortcomings.

I like Headley as underrated. He's played pretty well this year, and I don't think 95% of America knows who he is. Which makes sense because no one wants to watch that pathetic ball club.

The "homer" in me says Jason Vargas is underrated. 12 wins, 3.70-ish ERA, and leads the league (last time I checked) in IP.

Another "homer" decision is Brenden Ryan. Dude's a wizard with the glove. He struggled with the bat early in the season, but has hit .285 in his last 45 games. His average is only .205, but that's not the whole story.

42% of the county, including myself still can't watch them. They simply can't get out of their own way.

I'll just stick with the Marlins cause i've been slacking with keeping up with the rest of MLB this year.

                              Underrated: Emilio Bonifacio

I can get their games, but that's all FSSD broadcasts on DirecTV... other than the Padres game, it's a blank channel.

Sorry for de-railing the thread a bit, but yeah.
