Won't even finish .500 this year.

I feel you, I'm a Red Sox fan, we nearly have the same record(Sox have just 1 more win, same amount of losses), and we're both behind 5 teams in the WC. Although for us, we've already moved on and looking forward to the offseason, the rest of the Sept. games really are gonna be showcases for a bunch of our minor league prospects.

Keep the faith, brother. The Wild Card is a very feint hope. 500 is highly likely. At least they have some guys that could be role players next year like Frandsen and Kratz and have some money to go after a CF, like Bourne, and get a 3rd B, though a healthy Frandsen is looking highly, highly serviceable.

If the Phillies Pitching was playing to its xFIP they would have the lowest ERA in Baseball plus Utley is back and has almost 2 WAR already. 82-85 wins is likely.

Some quickie math. The best team in the league has a .606 winning %.

To finish with 82 wins, they'd have to play .650 ball the rest of the way. To finish with 85 wins, .710 ball.

Likely? Not the first word that comes to mind.

They'd need to play .618 (go 21-13 in 34 games) ball the rest of the way to reach .500.

And they just swept the best team in the league.

It's conceivable with all the right factors in place.

Discounting last year in which the starters only played in like 5 games the Phils historically have played roughly .650 ball in September*. And that is before they had a good pitching staff. All they need is Brown and Mayberry to get hot and 82 wins is probable. Wild card no chance sadly.

*By historically I mean with the current group under Charlie Manuel.
