    Re: TWINS

    The twins need to resign:
    S.Stewart
    D.Hocking
    R.Reed

I think they should just let E.Guardado go.

Then make some moves. I think the twins need hocking cause he can play most position and well that helps a lot.

on www.twinsbaseball.com it don't list K. Rodgers as a free agent thats why I didn't put anything down. But Eddie could be replace in my mind. I think the twins need another starter. Or they bullpen will be doing a lot of work.

The Twins could go with J.C. Romero as the closer, and spend the Guardado money on solidifying the pen and re-signing their guys.

You have absolutely no concept of how things should and will be done. Although we may be able to get by without Eddie G., we'd definitely be better off with Eddie closing and Romero, Silva, and Nathan setting him up than with JC in the closer's role. I like how our bullpen is rounding out despite the loss of Latroy, who I thought was the most important to re-sign of our 3 free agents coming into the offseason. That's pretty high praise when you consider that Stewart was 4th in MVP voting and Eddie has 86 saves over the past two seasons.

Reed is worthless. He made like $9M last year, although the Mets may have been paying some of it that's still rediculous for a pitcher with a .300 or so winning percentage and an ERA in the upper 5.00s (I didn't look up the exact numbers but it's relative). Reed is done. We'd be better off getting a young pitcher like JD Durbin or Grant Balfour some Major League experience.

Although Hocking is versitile in the field and a model clubhouse player, he is horrid at the plate and the Twins have other priorities before even thinking about a backup who gets 150 or so at-bats a year and bats in the mid to low .200s.

You were absolutely right about re-signing Stewart. The Twins are twice to three times the offense with him at the top of the order and Jones near the middle.

Just to confirm, Rogers is a free agent. It would be nice if we could sign him at or below his $2M/year salary last year. As of now our rotation looks like this:
                        Santana/Radke/Lohse/Rincon/Balfour? or Durbin?
I'd say we desperately need another proven starter, allowing Rincon to be in the bullpen where he is a valuable asset in long and middle relief. After a breakout season last year I think Rincon will have another good year in 2004.

Update: Twins sign Shannon Stewart to 3 year contract worth $18M

They also offered salary arbitration to Eddie Guardado, meaning they won't have to wait until May 1 to negotiate with him. Whether he accepts or declines arbitration, the Twins can negotiate with him until Jan. 8. Guardado has until Dec. 19 to accept or decline arbitration. Things are looking up Twins fans!
