More of the Twins' plans will come into focus after Saturday's deadline to tender contracts to unsigned players. Doug Mientkiewicz, J.C. Romero and Johan Santana are the arbitration-eligible players who must be offered 2004 contracts by Saturday or they become free agents.

The Twins were able to avoid salary arbitration with one of their starting players Friday when Luis Rivas agreed to a one-year contract, according to the Associated Press.
The 24-year-old second baseman will reportedly earn $1.5 million in 2004, a substantial raise from his 2003 salary of $340,000. Rivas batted .259 with eight homers and 43 RBIs last season.
