      Re: A-Rod to BOSTON!!!!

Why do the Red Sox want this deal done so badly? Does everyone who watches baseball just beleive that Boston wants a real chance to win in 2004? The ONLY reeason this deal is being done is to free the two teams of salary. Texas wouldn't have a problem taking on Ramirezs' contract because it's small then A-Rod's and he is just about equal of a good hitter. The Red Sox want A-Rod so they can restructer his contract. So the team can sign more free agents. They won't have a problem getting rid of Nomar. Who in all of this the Red Sox said they wanted to sign long term. If they DO, then why is this deal still being talked about? Nomar and Manny are just almost as equal of good hitters as A-Rod is. This deal is all based on economics. This will be a sad state in the game if this goes down(If Contracts are deffered/restructured) and should be a lesson for GM's everywhere. Don't sign players to huge contracts if your not going to pay them for the value they signed for. And just about the only media reporting this non-stop is ESPN. They just like to drive things into the ground for some reason.

Don't get me wrong, if I were a Red Sox fan I would love this trade to go down. But it's not very fair for the Red Sox OR the Rangers to sign these guys to huge contracts and trade them and then restructure their contracts. If teams did that all the time Steinbrenner would be pulling off more deals then Cashman could think of.

The players union told A-Rod they will not allow him to reconstruct his contract for Boston. That is a damn powerful union.

I don't understand why they can do that. I mean I know they are trying to ensure that the player gets value from the restructured deal but if the player decides the restructuring is ok for him shouldn't it be the player's decision what to do with their own contract and not the union? Isn't the union saying no to the deal just the same as them saying your not smart enough to decide what to do we will do it for you?

Nomar's homer off Pedro. Those four words just shouldn't go together. Not even on a day like 6/6/6. ~Bill Simmons
