Throw hockey in the same mix. There are 6-8 teams every year that have a shot at the title and the rest are simply pretenders. Its sad and unfortunate.

I would blame the owner and GM over the player. Theyr the ones that gave it to him, you get offered that kind of money you take it, Knowing youll never get a shot at that kind of jack again. Dont blame A Rod for being the best player on the free market and having those isiots running the team carry him on thier backs to the bank. He just signed the paper.

its true, i seem to remember the going market for A-Rod a coupld years ago was generally agreed to be 20mil/per, with him likely to "settle" for around 18 per for a team of choice....then Tom Hicks and his brilliance cme along and came up with that insane contract.....the bright spot is, its been crippling Texas ever since, so it wont happen again, at least youd like to think

the contract is thanks to scott boras' lying ***.

If the rangers do this deal, they're stupid. Tom Hicks should sell the team to someone who knows about baseball.
First he loads the team up with offense to try that, then when that doesn't work out, he starts unloading the offense to get pitching. They can win with a nice mix Tom!

You don't need to trade this century's babe ruth! You need to stop signing guys like F-ing Chan Ho Park!

You know I was thinking about what's happening with the BoSox and Yankees last night. I say let them do this. At some point (sooner rather then later) the strain of carrying such a huge budget is going to come back and bite both teams on the ***. In fact i'm willing to wager that by 2006 at the LATEST that both Boston and the Yankees will be in such dire straits economically that they won't be able to compete.

Both teams have very little in the minor leagues and I don't think many GMs are going to help by trading their youth for high priced old guys. By 2006 the balance of power in the AL East will shift so that it will be a dogfight between the Blue Jays and O's with the D'Rays being like the Jays the last few yrs and the Yanks and Bosoxs as celler dwellers in the division.
