9 gold gloves is great and only one MVP in 1984, no World Series and only two trips to the post season. How about a .285 hitter with only 282 HR's and just over 1,000 RBI, hardly dominant in my book. Infact it looks an awful lot like the career of Steve Garvey, and he'll never see the Hall Of Fame. Sorry Cub fan, Sandberg was nothing special.

With Eck getting in, I hope this opens the door for the likes of Sutter and Gossage, and in the future maybe guys like Rivera and Hoffman will get the nod as well.

A lot of the players from the late 70s and 1980s are overlooked. Ryno deserves to go, eventually, but his career lacked the longevity that Molitor and Eck had, and that's why they will go in first.

It's a shame Bert Blyleven isn't given more respect.

Name me five 2nd basemen who made their major league debuts in the last 50 years who are better than Sandberg, period. Hell, name me three.

And his career looks a lot like Steve Garvey? Garvey was a pretty damn good player in his day. And Sandberg did that at 2nd base, not 1st base.

Er all guys made their debuts before 50 yrs ago except Collins.

Collins was an oversight on my part as a replacement i'll put Rod Carew in.

EDIT: Don't know how much you know bout sabrmetrics but Sandberg is 9th in career Win Shares, Whitaker is 8th and Biggio when it's all said and done could surpass both of them.
