Re: Congrats to Paul Molitor & \"The Eck\"..

Er all guys made their debuts before 50 yrs ago except Collins.

Collins was an oversight on my part as a replacement i'll put Rod Carew in.

EDIT: Don't know how much you know bout sabrmetrics but Sandberg is 9th in career Win Shares, Whitaker is 8th and Biggio when it's all said and done could surpass both of them.

      I can name 5 that are comparable/better

Joe Morgan- Definitely comparable players, I'd give the edge to Morgan for his eye and superior basestealing ability. Sandberg was a better hitter for average and power.
Lou Whitaker- Comparable, but inferior in just about every way.
      Rod Carew- Better than Sandberg
Craig Biggio- Comparable, but plays in the offensive explosion of today. A good ballplayer.
      Bobby Grich- No.

Win Shares is definitely a legitimate stat, and one of the most telling stats.

You have to compare Sandberg to other second basemen. And when you do that, there's no doubt whatsoever that he was the most worthy candidate this year.

                        Consider this:

-More homers than any second baseman in history.

-Highest fielding percentage of any second baseman in history.

Dam, those two facts alone should make him a first-ballot Hall of Famer. That's without mentioning the nine gold gloves, 10 all star games, the steals, the high batting average, the fact that he led some mediocre Cubs teams to division pennants, or his ridiculous three years without a throwing error.
