Cruz is frustrating because no one can hit him, but he can't get it over the plate. So he walks the bases loaded, then gives up a blooper.

I don't know if Guzman is the answer or not... but his minor league numbers are Prior-like, and he's just 22.

      Rotation
      Mark Prior
      Kerry Wood
      Carlos Zambrano
      Matt Clement
      Greg Maddux

That is quite the rotation. I have been the biggest Juan Cruz supporter, but Maddux can bring invaluable experience and teaching to these young aces.

The lineup would become even more righty oriented. This lineup is going to become very dangerous if they find a leadoff hitter.

      Todd Walker/ Mark Grudz 2B
      Pudge C
      Sammy Sosa RF
      Corey Patterson CF
      Moises Alou LF
      Derek Lee 1B
      Aramis Ramirez 3B
      Alex Gonzalez SS

Very homer happy lineup. This teams is going to consistently have 3-2 games or 7-2. It is going to be very feast or famine again. The don't have many station to station hitters. Adding Todd Walker and Derek Lee really helped though.

      <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

Actually i think the line up be:

      2B Todd Walker/Mark Grudzielanek
      CF Corey Patterson
      C Ivan Rodriguez
      RF Sammy Sosa
      LF Moises Alou
      1B Derek Lee
      3B Aramis Ramirez
      SS Alex Gonzalez

but i'm not sure that the Cubs will sign him, they have a good offense already with out him,
and you can never have enough pitching, which is why i think they would sign Maddux over Pudge.

      for anyone interested:
      Cubs line up w/o Pudge

      2B Todd Walker/ Mark Grudzielanek
      CF Corey Patterson
      RF Sammy Sosa
      LF Moises Alou
      1B Derek Lee
      3B Aramis Ramirez
      SS Alex Gonzalez
      C Michael Barrett

I hate to disagree and bring up something Ialready stated not too long ago:

I'd dare you to name more than 5 Catchers that could hit more than 20-25 out of the yard, but I'd be wasting my time. Point being that just as with the Shortstop position, if you don't have one of the superior 5, you don't get Homers from the Catcher position. That's all there is to it. Barrett gets you about 10 Homers a year, a fair ammount, but enough about Homers. LEts discuss his average which is decent. It's not superb, or amazing, but this is a back of the lineup kindof guy. Most teams in each league would be hard pressed to find a Catcher who batted over .275. I'm not saying Barrett does that, I'm comparing Catching. I'm sure you just want the Cubs to be superior, but the fact is that more teams than not have REGULAR Catchers that...well...JUST CATCH...they don't expect much else from them, just to catch. That's what Barrett does, and he's pretty damn good at it. IF you can get an extra hit or two out of your Catcher, consider yourself damned lucky. Point is, they can do better, but because of the status of the Catcher over-all throughout the Majors, they don't NEED TO. How many times and in how many ways do I have to say it? THE CUBS DO NOT NEED PUDGE RODRIGUEZ, THE CUBS DO NOT NEED PUDGE RODRIGUEZ, THE CUBS DO NOT NEED PUDGE RODRIGUEZ!!!

            key word: Need.

            Evaluate it all.

With a more than decent Catcher in Barrett, they simply do not need a guy like Pudge. Sorry.

I have to agree. Barrett is not that terrible of a catcher, and I expect him to have a bounce back year.
