I'm not sure who the A's have, but I think it's Harang.

Actually it's Rich Harden, who has the makings to be another stud out of the A's stable,
he was practically unhittable in the minors and had a pretty decent rookie year

    Rich Harden: 5-4 4.46 ERA 67 SO 40 BB in 74.2 innings

    The A's probable rotation:

    RHP Tim Hudson
    LHP Barry Zito
    LHP Mark Mulder
    LHP Mark Redman
    RHP Rich Harden

Well, if Jayson Stark's opinion matters at all, it goes like this:

      1. Astros
      2. Yankees
      3. Red Sox
      4. A's
      5. Cubs

      http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/column...amp;id=1710604

The Yankees #2??? I think Stark was smoking something. I'd go something like this:

      1. Astros
      2. Red Sox
      3a. Cubs
      3b. A's
      4. Marlins
      5. Yankees

      <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

I fail to see how the Yankees have the worst rotation out that group. Ok, maybe they're not as good as Cubs or the A's, but they match up evenly with everybody else. That's my opinion anyways, and I'm trying to stay objective. If you want to debate it - please, be my guest.

Re: Who has the best starting 5 now: Cubs or Astros?

okay, Yanks against everyone else: Lieber puts them out of contention.

            Mike Mussina
            Javier Vasquez
            Kevin Brown
            Jose Contreras
            Jon Lieber

            oh.....joy?.....

            3 things:

You don't know what will happen with Contreras

            Brown could get injured EASILY

Lieber is recovering from Tommy John. Talk about a liability.

            Red Sox:

            Curt Schilling
            Pedro Martinez
            Derek Lowe
            Tim Wakefield
            Byung Hyun Kim

no questions here. Not only do you have two of the top 3 pitchers in Baseball for the past 5 years in Schilling and Pedro, but you have Wakefield who proved he's Starter material. Lowe who won 17, and Kim who is on a team that no matter how badly his confidence warys, there will always be someone ready to pick it up for him.

            Cubs:

            Kerry Wood
            Mark Prior
            Matt Clement
            Carlos Zambrano
            Juan Cruz

only question is with Juan, everyone else went out there last season and made things happen.

            A's:

            Tim Hudson
            Barry Zito
            Mark Mulder
            Mark Redman
            Rich Harden

Redman went out on last years World Series Champion Marlins, and proved himself a worthy Starter. Harden is the only real question, 4.66 ERA is still quite high to be relying on from a young #5.

            Astros:

            Roy Oswalt
            Andy Pettitte
            Roger Clemens
            Wade Miller
            Jeriome Robertson

It's funny everyone gives this rotation accolades, because the only part of it which is NOT questionable is the 4 and 5 spots. Oswalt suffered most last year with injuries, Pettite and Clemens will be moving to the NL, and Clemens is one year older. You just don't know how tw gys who have spent the majority of their careers in the AL will fare in the NL, especially in a Hitters park. You'll be lucky to get 15 out of either of them in the end, and Wade Miller will probably end up being your best pitcher, AGAIN.

So in Closing, my list is as such:

            1. Red Sox
            2. Cubs
            3. A's
            4. Yankees
            5. Astros
