Pujols is worth about the same as Guerreo. 5 over 70-80. Possibly more. He is actually worth the Ramirez type contract.

he was worth the ramirez contract at the time ramirez signed it, but the economy is different now.

albert deserves a big contract, no doubt, but he should sign it now instead of later... prices will only go down.

If he really wants to stay in St. Louis and win, he will take what the Cardinals offer him and be happy playing baseball. Look at AROD. He wanted the long term contract and the big $ and now he's stuck playing for a team that is lucky if they can play .500 baseball. What's the difference between the buying power of 55 million and say 80-90 million? You can still afford a huge house, nice cars, nice clothes, etc.

I would argue that with the other players mentioned (Maddux, Bonds, IRod) are all on the wrong side of 30 years old, thus no one is willing to give them longer than a 2 or 3 year contract (except for the Tigers who need players and names to bring in the fans). Assuming we all believe Pujol's birth certificate, the guy is only 24 years old and putting up monster numbers his first 3 years in the majors... and probably hasn't hit his peak yet. He's worth a long term, big bucks contract IMO. Not in the 20 mil/ year range (no one is stupid enough to do that anymore), but a 5-7 year, 14-17mil/year contract is probably what he's going to be offered either by the Cards or by some other team.
