Re: Pujols wants his money...and he wants it NOW!!!

I just think it's a joke that he's whining about the team getting rid of his buddies Eduardo Perez, Placido Polanco, Eli Marrero and J.D. Drew.

Perez, Polanco and Marrero are utility players that are a dime a dozen and can be had by much cheaper. Drew is a wast of a uniform and was making way too much money.

If Albert thinks that having his buddies (and I have a feeling it's more about Polanco, Marrero and Perez) around, as opposed to freeing up money to pay his *** AND improve the sorry pitching staff...well, then somebody's got their priorities way out of wack.

It pretty much comes off as Albert wants to make a ton of money, hang out with his Latin buddies and if he wins a World Series, well then that'd be nice too.

Re: Pujols wants his money...and he wants it NOW!!!

The scary part about the "one throw away from surgery" thing is that the Cards are interested in signing Travis Lee to play 1st because he is a better option in the lineup than any of their lf candidates.

If the Cardinals do give Pujols the kind of money he wants, I will be very afraid of what the coming years will bring. It will be absolutely necessary to bring in a manager and pitching coach that have the ability to develop young pitchers. This may or may not work out. The Cards have three or four guys that could possibly compete for a roster spot next year, and with 2004 being the last year in LaRussa's contract, it may be perfect timing. Young pitchers will free up the money that Pujols and Rolen will be making and hopefully free up enough to resign Renteria. I just hope this ownership does not handicap the team for years to come by giving Pujols a 15+ mil. a year deal.

I definitely agree. He says at one point that he didn't "know what they had in mind" and was "surprised" that they didn't bring those guys back, yet his upcoming raise is one of the main reasons that those guys could not be brought back. Does he want to win, or does he want some buddies on the team? He also states that with the way that players are traded and let go that "you can't lock yourself into one team just because you like the fans. If you do that, it's going to be tough when you get traded somewhere." Well, don't lock yourself to any of the players then Albert! Pujols' attitude is making McGwire look like Mother Theresa.

Cardinals offer $7 mil, Pujols asks for $10.5. This should be interesting.

I hope Pujols doesn't get more then 10.5 million. It's true he is a great hitter, but why not spend all that future money on pitching? The team has way too many big contracts floating around, even after Marrero and Drew have left. Morris is owed around 10-12 million the next few years and williams is due around 7-10 million this year. Edmonds has his 12 Million due for the next 2-3 years and Rolen is getting his 11 million for the next 8 years. I think the team has way too much wasted in the lineup and even in the bullpen. Their paying Izzy around 8-10 million too. And the team is wanting to sign Pujols and Renteria tp long-term deals.

Rotoworld.com is reporting that the Cardinals are now submitting a third bid after Pujols refused the first two. Here's what the report says:

The Cardinals have already had two long-term contract proposals rejected by Albert Pujols, but it appears that they're preparing a third. Pujols reportedly has rejected offers of $55 million over five years and $72 million over six years. The next proposal is likely to be for eight years and could be worth more than $100 million. At this rate, Pujols might want to keep saying no for a while longer. The Cardinals could push this up into A-Rod territory.
