Seattle has Ichiro, Winn, Boone, Martinez, Spiezio, Olerud, Aurilia, Ibanez, Soriano, Garcia, Moyer, Pineiro, Guardado, Franklin, Meche, and Hasegawa.

Oakland has Hudson, Mulder, Zito, Rhodes, Rincon, Redman, Bradford, Chavez, Crosby, Durazo, Dye.. Kielty... Kotsay..

I'd much rather take Seattle's proven bullpen, rotation, and lineup over Oakland's good rotation and mediocre offense.

The thing about Oakalands rotation is that they give their team a chance to win on any given day, because they have the big 3, then Harden, and Redman. That's easily the best 1-5 rotation in the league. Sure, their offense is not top notch, but it will be enough for them to win the West because of their rotation.

I am suprised though that you didn't dispute me putting the Blue Jays ahead of Seattle. I really think they have a better team. Not as good as a pitching staff sure, but its not that far behind. Blue Jays also have a much younger, better offense, along with solid defense.

The Blue Jays aren't as good as the Mariners right now. Other than Halladay I'd rather have every starter on the Mariners, plus they have arguably the best bullpen in the league. If Meche, Garcia actually pitch up to their talent level and the team stays generally healthy the Mariners will win the west.

Last season, Seattle underachieved. The only players who really played better than expected was Winn and Hasegawa while Ichiro, Olerud, Garcia, and the rest of the bullpen struggled. If these players bounce back, they should be at the top of the AL West.

Last season, Seattle underachieved. The only players who really played better than expected was Winn and Hasegawa while Ichiro, Olerud, Garcia, and the rest of the bullpen struggled. If these players bounce back, they should be at the top of the AL West.

Seatle is getting old. Freddy Garcia has under-achieved for the last two years giving us no reason to say he will pitch as good as he did in 01. I think Aurilia will be a bust in Seatle and Spiezio isn't very good. I like their bullpen and the starting rotation is adequate. I'd put Toronto over them right now because Toronto has stellar offense and enough pitching to complement it. Lily pitched very well down the stretch last year and I think he'll be okay in Toronto. Batista had a great year last year and has looked just as good in the spring. And Hallday is one of the top pitchers in the game, for some reason a lot of people tend to overlook him when that discussion arises. If they can find someone to close out games they'll be very good. Meanwhile, Seatle's rotation is slightly above average and their offense is average at best with absolutely no power in it. Oakland has won the division two years in a row with mediocre offense so what reason do we have to say they can't do it again?
