I believe the first step instinct to mostly be pure luck. Maybe the most skilled goalies can read something in the body language of the kicker without being deceived, and many good goalies also have good second-move reactions to adjust after going one direction... but if you go right and the ball goes left, you ain't gonna save it.

I think there is an art to taking pitches outside of the strike zone. The "luck" that comes into play is whether you get those pitches out of the zone to begin with. If a player is thrown nothing but strikes, it's impossible to walk. Simple as that.

Some people think OBP is overrated because of the BB/HBP amount, but I sense a high correlation between those numbers and the players who are receiving them. That being said, a pitcher walking is pure luck.
plus a random grounds crew member isn't gonna get four balls in an at bat, trevor bauer could walk to the batters box and say "fastball, fastball fastball" and it'll be a quick K

Just read that Gary Sheffield holds the record for playing in the most Major League ballparks, at 51.

He had a sneaky long career. Most people probably don't even remember his monster 92 season with the Padres.

I do...won the batting title (.334 IIRC). Guy was always one of my favorite players to watch, even when he was with the Brewers (where he never did break out/reach his potential, but when he flashed his brilliance you could see where the hype came from). I hate the way he's been looked at in retrospect and hope he ends up in the HOF at some point.

                  Re: MLB Off-Topic

He actually admitted that he used steroids, but also said that he did not do so complicity. He had used the "clear" and the "cream" in 2002/2003 time frame; when everything about BALCO came out he testified to investigators that he used it, but without knowledge of what was in it. That is why he claims to have tested positive in the Mitchell Report.

He was always a player who was vocal about testing and was asking for testing prior to 2002/2003. From everything I've read, voters who won't vote for him do it based on 1) potential PED's, 2) his terrible defensive abilities, and 3) his reputation as a malcontent.

I do not believe he was a steroid guy in the sense that he took them to make himself something; his numbers are legit, IMO. There are plenty of terrible defensive players in the HOF and his bat more than made up for it. Finally, I think the malcontent thing is overblown. Early in his career in Milwaukee, maybe ...but I would have taken him on my team (I enjoyed his time in Atlanta).

All in all, I think the guy is a HOFr...regardless of what Tom Verducci thinks.

A minor league player in the New York Yankees system has tested positive for coronavirus, sources tell ESPN. He is the first known case in baseball. He was quarantined Friday morning after saying he was running a fever.

Unfortunately not many MLB games being replayed up here, I'd love some regular season 2015 games to be shown. That summer was insane.

But they did show the 7th inning vs Rangers.

Harold Reynolds is so annoying. He literally ripped everything that happened in that inning, being that "old man yells at clouds" guy. Would love listening to the entire inning with no commentary.

MLBN showing Phillies vs Cubs in its entirety.....from 1979!

                            23-22 final score.

They're also using their own MLBN graphics when showing who's batting or pitching. How did people survive without scorebugs? And I wonder how people reacted when permanent scorebugs were added to broadcasts. Did they think it was a distraction?

I remember reading that article the week it was published; that made me pay attention to Trout when I watched the Angels that September when he was called up and I was disappointed at how overwhelmed he looked at the plate based on the hype...and then 2012 happened.
