I dont think it would have been too awful for the players, at least the fans in Montreal would have cared about the team and showed up to games. The Rays could win 4 World Series in a row and nobody would show up to games the following season.

You feel like working and not being able to go to your house at night for 3/4 of an entire season?

Can they just flat out relocate? I hope the owners/pa are diving hard into the Rays and As situation.

They can discuss finances all they want, but when you have 2 markets which are impacting your business in a bad way, you need to address that too.

If the A's relocate it will be to Vegas but I haven't followed the Rays situation enough to know if they're in a position to relocate.

Did see a fly by on Twitter today that the two markets the MLB are eyeing for expansion though should it happen are Montreal and Nashville.

That's been my unpopular opinion as well, MLB should expand. You add over 200 new jobs for players from the majors down to the minors, can realign divisions, and if you do the 6 team playoff format, it could just be like the former NFL one (4 division winners and 2WC teams, or even 3WC if they agree to the current proposal).

But none of that happens until As and Rays situation is finished.

As to Vegas and Rays to Montreal makes most sense. Divisions don't change, and in the case of Montreal, it makes for much less travel for those northeastern AL markets.

They should just have a tennis-like quick appeals system where if something needs to be checked they can check it real quick. Give each team 10 if you need to put a number on it.

Would be a nice compromise between the soulless, cookie-cluttering bull**** proposal and umpires getting fooled by framing or being flat out clueless otherwise.

Do we really expect the Bitchers About Umps to suddenly be like "man this is great!" Of course not.

The tennis appeal is what should happen for MLB.

Those reviews are very quick, especially compared to current reviews in sports leagues.

I'd have failed challenges that penalize a team by taking away a mound visit (which should also be further reduced imo).

I think you have more than 20 "close" calls per game. No half measures, the Robot Umps are coming.

They need to fix the issue with calling breaking balls, but I like that they're expanding automated strike zones to affiliated ball. I'm surprised it's right to AAA, but I guess that's the closest measure in terms of pitching to the MLB level.

I don't believe its being across the entire Triple A landscape, as I think its only 11 ballparks that are currently going to us it.

Its also going to be used in a few ballparks during spring training games in Florida.

What is the breaking ball issue, and why is it there?

If it's the thing where it crosses at the knees but bounces before the catcher catches it, why isn't that a strike?

The zone is tuned for the front of the plate, so any pitch with significant downward movement can technically be a strike because it's at the knees at the front of the plate, but drops a few inches and the catcher receives it at the ground.

While it's technically a strike by the zone, it's never been called that way consistently by human umpires, so it's been a big issue with the automated zone so far. Maybe they can adjust the depth of the zone to start at the back of the plate or maybe where it starts to shape to a point. I'm not sure, but they'll need to do something about it
