Sports world is just losing legend after legend.

NBA recently lost Bill Walton and Jerry West

Now we find out Willie Mays has passed away.

I guess it does come in threes. And all 3 careers almost coincided with each other at some point.

Mays career ended after the 73 season, West ended after the 73/74 season, Walton debuted in 74/75 season.

Oh man, I hate to hear it, especially right before the big game at Rickwood Thursday. I figured they would do something to highlight his time with Birmingham even before today, but now I'm certain of it.

RIP to the Say Hey Kid.

I think that makes Sandy Koufax the last living legend of the Golden Age of Baseball.

Willie Mays was one of the best ever man. He will be missed. The Say Hey Kid man.

I remember being in high school in the 90's and (I kept getting cut from the team but) I was saying "Say Hey" all the time to random people around school and no one knew what I was talking about. I learned his nickname from a Cartoon illustrated sports almanac book my grandfather bought me in the late 70s.

I'm 63, and it's just sad seeing the sports heroes I grew up watching passing on. R.I.P. to one of the all-time greats.

On May 11, 1972 Willie Mays was traded to the Mets. In his Mets debut against the Giants on Mother's Day, May 14, 1972 he hit a HR to help the team win which I'll never forget. I know he wasn't the MVP player but to us kids back then, he was still "Say Hey, Willie Mays" to us.

                          Tonight's game should be special.

For my money, Mays is the GOAT.

                            RIP, Willie.

Fox had a couple cool stats in support of Mays as the G.O.A.T.
                              1) Only player with 3000 hits, career batting average of .300, 300 homers and 300 steals.
                              2) only player with a homer in every inning from inning 1 to inning 16.
