Maybe Vegas would be used as a threat to the Rays. Like Montreal also.

Though Rays to Vegas would ruin alignment. Cause then Rockies(geographic reasons) prob then have to go to Central and then a central team moves into AL East(either Brewers if Rockies go to NL Central,or Tigers if they go to AL Central)

To me, this is all just leverage for MLB. Drum up support from as many cities as possible, show strong financials, pontificate on expansion all so that your member franchises can leverage potential relocation into a massive taxpayer-funded new stadium every few years and you can tell your sponsors/media partners to pony the heck up. This is the same thing the NBA does by keeping Seattle vacant and leveraging what has gone on with the Bucks most recently.

I can tell you that I've thought long and hard about expansion cities in my forays into OOTP dynasties (lol) and none of the proposed cities really make complete sense. You've got places like Montreal, Charlotte, Vegas, San Jose [or insert burgeoning California city here], Portland, Monterrey, Mexico City, Indianapolis, San Antonio etc... and none of them really have the magic combo of high disposable income/huge media market/a fan base that would become devoted to baseball over other options/approval from pre-existing clubs in the region. Baseball may be financially healthy enough to try expansion, but there just doesn't seem like an appropriate spot for 1 team let alone 2.

Of all the 3 leagues with 30 teams,MLB I think would be most capable of doing expansion. NHL least capable. Ironically, NHL is the one closest to doing so while MLB seems furthest lol.

It'd all really just come down to who can build a stadium. Nobody is gonna want to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on a new stadium, with no guarantee of a team. But if an owner finds out the fan interest in the city is big enough, then they could really work on out a good proposal to MLB either for expansion or possible relocation.

But the real thing is just if interest is there for losing team. Cause winning team for most part will draw fans(unless you're the Astros or Rays), but if the team is losing, last thing you want is crowds under 20,000 on a nightly basis.

I hope they leave it at 30. There already aren't enough good hitters, I'd hate to see lineups diluted even more.

The issue is that this ideal city currently exists in the same way that a unicorn does. It's entirely fictional at the moment. For a variety of reasons as I mentioned a few posts up, there is no city that checks all the boxes of a city that could adequately support a new baseball team.

The best shot you'd have is wedging a team into Brooklyn or Jersey and good luck slicing into the Yankees' or Mets' territory. I can't imagine a ransom payment big enough.

If they push it to 31, get rid of consistent interleague play.

There's another issue with Vegas...They're going to need to play in a domed stadium. The CFL tried football out there and the heat was so insufferable that every home game had to be played after the sun goes down. I don't think local government in Vegas is going to want to pony up the money for a new stadium.

Honestly, I think all MLB needs to do is move the Rays to Montreal and be done with it.

Montreal in the AL East is works out geographically as well.

Montreal in AL east would be great attendance wise for divisional games.

Red sox, yankees in town always draw big crowds for jays and Os. But montreal added means red sox, yankees, jays visiting will be big crowds. For jays, montreal added means red sox, yankees, montreal are big crowds. Red sox, yankees home attendance doesn't get as impacted based on opponents cause they sell no matter what. And Os cant have much done rivalry wise to boost attendance.

I think Montreal would be best scenario for sure in al east over tampa. Jays in bad years got under 20,000 for rays games, but over 30,000 for yankees and red sox. Add montreal, and thats over 100,000 extra fans going, even in bad years. Montreal, even averaging 30,000 a game would mean over 1 million extra fans vs tampa. Red sox, yankees,Os like i mentioned prob wont be impacted by new team unless that team is in their area, so jays increased attendance factor adds more in montreals favor since attendance will be big diff if its jays vs montreal compared to something like jays vs charlotte
