    Re: MLB Off-Topic

This is from a short article on sportsnet today. I don't know what the hell the Royals can do other than sending this idiot to the minor leagues until he realizes that being in the majors is a privilege and not a right. He's just looking to get messed up seriously.

It turns out that Machado wasn’t the only hitter Ventura wanted to plunk. Within the Kansas City Royals‘ clubhouse, the right-hander was talking about his plans to hit Jose Bautista with a pitch the next time he faced the Toronto Blue Jays slugger, according to Yahoo’s Jeff Passan.

Ventura’s teammates responded to his bravado by rolling their eyes, according to Passan, who reports that Royals players and executives have “long waited for Ventura to grow up,” only to be disappointed.

He deserves to go to the minors for being a bad pitcher, but yeah, this is the impetus for sending him down.

If you want to keep using your 99 MPH fastball as a weapon, then you can waste away in the minors.

Dude, you're a champion. Act like it.

Why exactly is this guy so brazen? Nobody is taking liberties with his career, why is he with others?

I have so little respect for Ventura, I've never given him the time of day to learn how to spell or pronounce his first name correctly.

In other news, the replay is definitely the biggest time killer of all next to mound visits (from any player or personnel). Not just the challenge time, but deciding whether or not to challenge. It took well over 60 seconds just for the Pirates to decide not to challenge a call.

EDIT: Just to be me, I went and dug up an easy intentional walk to find online (Barry Bonds with the bases loaded), and just compared it to deciding not to challenge a replay. The entire intentional walk to Bonds, from getting set on the first pitch to catching ball four, at 36 seconds. Meanwhile, after a runner was obviously thrown out at second base in the Angels/Yankees game, from the time the runner went into the dugout to the time the umpire signaled to resume play was 46 seconds! Keep in mind this was on an above obvious out!

I think you know where I'm going with this.

As has been mentioned already, the way Ventura's teammates feel about him speaks volumes. Pitching coach Dave Eiland and Chris Young were both talking and gesturing to him like a weak-minded child when holding him back yesterday. He's too dense to realize that he's putting his teammates in danger of retaliation, which is a punk move being an AL pitcher.

              Regarding Barry Bonds...

Anybody ever bought into the notion that the armbrace Barry Bonds wore literally forced his swing into the same mechanics?

I always wondered whether it help him keep a bent arm, because my sister started wearing an elbow guard and when I tried it on it would fixate my arm a little bent, which makes sense.

He doesn't wear it in batting practice though, and he keeps the same swing then. I'd say it doesn't hurt it and furthermore just adds more weight to his already weaker arm. Him without it would be the same swinger IMO.

Is there a place to watch old games online, like a YouTube channel or something? Or are there historic games on MLB.tv?

Im reading an article on Doc Gooden from SI about his rookie season, then went to look up his stats that year and dear god lol, I just want to see a game. 218 innings with a 1.69 FIP is just nuts, and he was 20 years old and pitching for the Mets, I just can't imagine what that must've been like for him.

There are lots of great old games on YouTube. I've watched Kerry Wood's 20-K game quite a few times this way. Almost certain you can get a Doc Gooden start, whether in the '86 playoffs or what have you, online.

EDIT: Here's Clemens vs Gooden in 1986 WS Game 2. Neither one at their best.

And here's Gooden again in Game 5 of the '86 Series.

And one more, Gooden vs Dodgers in the '88 NLCS called by Al Michaels. This is Gooden at a high level.
