Re: MLB Off-Topic
So...did anyone see the exchange between Dan LeBetard (sp?) and Rob Manfred? That was...heated. You don't see a journalist go after a commissioner of a sport like that very often."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

I read the story about it. It's not surprising Le Batard went after Manfred considering he's a Miami guy. You don't usually see sports journalists grilling top executive brass like this. Unless you're Ron MacLean or Bob McCown absolutely grilling Gary Bettman once or twice a year.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I don't even know why Manfred would go on a radio show with a guy like LeBatard if he wasn't going to answer any questions. They knew he was at least going to ask why they approved an ownership group that was going to tear down the team again. If he was going to play dumb, there was no need to schedule the interview.
He kept saying we don't ask about individual moves, but the question was about the whole firesale. Then he says they told him they were committed to winning longterm in Miami...well unless that's literally all they told you, there must have been a plan as to how they were going to get there.
Does anyone have footage of Manfred making a good impression? I've yet to see any lol.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: MLB Off-Topic
With the way Manfred stalled to answer the first question directly, I want to somehow make a time limit rule joke. I just can't think of a good one.Last edited by Blzer; 12-20-2017, 06:55 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
You can't invite someone on your show and just start out being a straight up dick to them from the word "go"
I'm not a fan of Manfred. But why was Le Batard acting like he was a victim? lol.
I remember watching him and his dad on whatever show that was on ESPN. Just absolute garbage. That show was cringe worthy.
But what I really can't figure out is why Manfred would go on that particular show. Seemed like an odd choice.
Can we just wait and see what Jeter and company's five year plan is? These people are acting like he dismantled a championship contender. Yes they had a pretty strong core. But they weren't contending next year.
At least give this group a chance.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
With the way Le Batard put it, it almost sounded like Manfred was privileged to be on a segment of his radio show, lol. Re: MLB Off-Topic
Maybe Manfred knew about the teardown before hand. But would it really be a good thing if Manfred intervened and vetoed trades like David Stern.
For me it's simple. Hell no. Manfred shouldn't have to put a cape on and dictate what happens in South Florida.

And if there had been any doubt...

Every [Jeter] investor and non investor has the Wolverine financial plan of slashing payroll to $85 million. Widely circulated.”Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: MLB Off-Topic
first of all "project wolverine", considering Derek's Michigan ties, is great.
2nd, I love the Le Batard show, but the last time Manfred was on didn't they propose an idea about a "magic bat" rule change? They don't exactly take sports talk seriously, which is what makes them great.
I'm a few days behind on the show, I love the podcast and it takes me awhile to catch up, but they were trying to get hold of some Bruce Sherman guy who I think is a majority owner of the Marlins? Not entirely sure. They couldn't get him and were directed to Jeter, which was an obvious dead end.
I'm surprised any time the show has a segment that is taken seriously, they exist for jokes, outside of actual serious segments about race they're 90% jokes, which again is why I like themWolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment
