If you go by this, Las Vegas remains relatively low on the list, even lower than all other MLB markets if I read it right.

Apparently the A's proposal had a huge tax payer investment which is one of the many hold up's. The others are environmental issues with the site.

For the record, I've been adamant over the years that the A's wouldn't move but today's developments are probably the closest I've felt to swaying on that a bit.

All parties are saying the right things but that's not much of a surprise.

It's still 100% a power play by the MLB and the A's BUT it doesn't mean the end result won't be a move at this point.

They didn't give the A's a date. They simply officially gave them permission to explore options outside of Oakland since the process is taking so long.

The lease at the Coliseum is up in 2024 and whether it be in Oakland or somewhere else, a new park isn't likely to be ready by then either way.

LV can make that up with all the tourists that come into town. Stay at a hotel gamble a little and then go watch a game.

I kinda feel bad for Oakland all of their teams leaving. First the Raiders, then the Warriors left across the bridge to SF, and now the A's wanting to leave.

The Athletics are threatening to explore relocation if Oakland officials don't approve the latest stadium proposal. Read more at MLB Trade Rumors.

Oakland vice-mayor Rebecca Kaplan has requested that the Oakland City Council vote on the Athletics’ ballpark term sheet on July 20, according to*Matt Kawahara and Sarah Ravani of The San Francisco Chronicle.* The City Council also sent a letter to Major League Baseball on Friday stating that “The Oakland City Council is committed to negotiating in good faith for a strong future for the A’s in Oakland, and we invite the A’s and MLB to do the same by agreeing not to seek relocation while the A’s complete the project process as the Council moves forward.”
The letter also feels there was some “incorrect information” within MLB’s statement, noting that the Council has not been “delaying or refusing to consider the A’s project proposal.”* The letter also questioned MLB’s designation of the Coliseum as “not a viable option,” referring to that statement as an “unsupported conclusion.”
“In any case, we hope you will understand that the shifting ‘demands’ on what Oakland must do, combined with your public threat to allow the team to leave, even while the City is undertaking the items that you and the A’s have urged, might leave the impression that there never has been any good faith intent on your part to work on a future ballpark in Oakland.* However, we remain open to working together.* It is possible that you didn’t intend to threaten relocation from a city, in the absence of that city’s leadership even being given an opportunity to consider a proposal from the team.”

            Anyone wanna simplify this?

The A's need to get out of this toxic relationship as soon as possible. This just screams bad longterm relationship gaslighting to convince the other person to stick around and somehow be grateful lol.

Jays claim they've had positive discussions with the government about playing in Toronto this season.

Post ASG is when I've always thought would be the earliest date.

Given how most should have their 2nd vaccines by the summer, perhaps border restrictions will be lifted for those with both?

That first game back at home with fans will be crazy. Might not happen in 2021, as Jays could play here with no fans (that would be an easier proposal to get the government to let them play), but whenever it happens, the Jays will have gone more time than all others.

Last Jays game in Toronto with fans was September 2019! It could very well end up being 2-2.5 YEARS in between games here with or without fans!

Baseball America released new top 100 rankings.

Jays lead the way with 8 players on that list! To think, their big guys like Vlad and Bo aren't even part of that list anymore and their pool is still so stacked.

They've come such a long way from the Jays who once had a great farm system but bad MLB team (pre 2012), then had a great MLB team but a depleted farm system (2015-2016), to now having a good MLB team and great farm system.

A strong farm system and playoff contending MLB team is a combo that the Jays haven't really had since the mid 80s-early 90s, and we all know how that ended up.

Oakland Athletics officials will visit Southern Nevada next week to explore the possibility of Las Vegas becoming a relocation home for the major league baseball club.

Multiple sources confirmed that a group headed by A’s president and co-owner Dave Kaval would meet with area government officials during several days.

The A’s also are said to be lining up a prominent government relations firm to assist in the fact-finding mission.

Good to see all of these teams going full capacity. Hopefully the entire league is allowing full capacity by the end of the year. With covid being swept under the rug more and more as time passes, it isn't a stretch to think that we could finally be back to full capacity in the postseason and have some good atmospheres again.

How do you guys feel about the significance of team/franchise historical stats and position historical stats?

In other words, if a player moves up to #2 on the all-time RBI list as a member of the Marlins, do you find yourself caring? No one brings it up again until you move into #1 or somebody passes you, and it's probably more so indicative of how long you've been with the team rather than what you've done over your career (obviously it's indicative of your contributions to the team, but from the outside looking in you're just wearing a uniform while gathering them).

Or like, Jeff Kent has more home runs as a second baseman than anybody else, and I'm not saying that positions can't dictate numbers or that anyone can just slide into second base, but when he's hitting less than the shortstops and third baseman around him, does his comparative self at second base really signify a notable achievement that should ignore everybody else who is not one?

                            Just curious.

It depends on plenty of variables. If you're the franchise leading HR hitter at 2B, but you have 88 career HRs then I couldn't care less. If a guy is the all time HR leader at a given position with 585, then I think the record is worthy of celebration and attention.

I don't put much stock on team records, but definitely on positional records. To enter the HOF one of the basic test is comparing you against your own peers. Being the all-time leader in homers/doubles/hits/walks at catcher (for example) is something I would definitely take note of.
