I usually watch the Australian Baseball League on their YouTube channel for my baseball fix. End up seeing some prospects like Ronald Acuna last year in the ABL.

I have watched a bit of that...last year especially with Acuna down there. It would be nice if the Nippon League ran in the winter...I actually enjoy watching it and it would be nice to have a "second" season to follow in the offseason.

I've heard of that league but have never seen any of the games. What would you peg the level of baseball as being closest to in North America? I will have to check out their youtube channel.

I've long wanted to follow or least watch some Nippon League baseball. Is there an English language feed somewhere online or are you watching the Japanese broadcast?

Okay, so stupid me now sees the sticker on the hat that actually says low profile. I'm going to request an exchange, but no where on that link is low profile specified. Is that the new default? Do they make the regular profile ones anymore? I'm going to have to be specific in my exchange if that's the case (personally I also want a black top instead of an orange top, and I don't want that silly New Era logo, but I don't think I can be that picky).

From my experience, you have to search for low profile; the high front is still more widely sold

It's a difficult situation and I'm not sure that will ever change. On the one hand there is the struggle that the victim/survivor has to deal with. On the other hand there is the tendency to summarily try (and often punish) in a court of public opinion, especially when the accused is outed on social media.

It is. It's gotten out of hand now. Forgive me if I don't believe every woman that pulls the #Metoo card.

Just thinking about the Duke Lacrosse scandal. Those boys were slandered and it was all bull. It's a really delicate situation.

But I think alot of this is a money grab. Some of this timing is just so suspicious.

                  Let's see what comes out.

I believe the mariners now hold the longest postseason drought of the big 4 leagues with the bills now in playoffs.

Barely. Their last appearance was 2001, the Browns' last appearance was 2002, the Marlins in 2003, Twolves in 2004. The longest drought in the NHL is the Hurricanes who last appeared in 2009.

Twolves is likely ending this season. But regardless, mariners hold that distinction.

Former Red Sox reliever Daniel Bard called it a career today after trying for 5 years to get back to the majors. Here is an article that details his struggles...

A dominant reliever, a struggling starter, and a comeback that never quite worked. Daniel Bard discusses it all with SB Nation.

I remember how dominant he was when he first came up and how many people hated the move to make him a starter. It's a shame he joins a long list of "could have beens", but it sounds like he has his head on straight from a life perspective.

This is a ridiculous line of thought. False accusations about rape and sexual assault are incredibly rare and anyone making an allegation of any kind risks public scrutiny on themselves in a system determined to silence them at all costs. Maybe it isn't quite so unreasonable to take the accusers seriously and feel sympathy for them.

There are literally a consensus of studies by researchers and prosecutors based on court precedings vs. (non-legal) public allegation that agree with me here.

A 2006 Cambridge study found the judicial and academic understanding about the prevalence of false accusations was woefully inconsistent and unsubstantiated, often conflating "false" with "not charged" "dismissed" "unsubstantiated" or any of the various other reasons that a rape accusation would not lead to a criminal conviction. Since then, studies with more precise methodology tend to put the rate of rape allegations that turn out to be false between 2 and 10%.

Also the prosecution for false allegations is so f'ed up a woman in the U.K. was charged for making false allegations after her husband raped her, she reported it, tried to withdraw the charges, was told she couldn't, then said she lied, and then it turned out she was lying about lying and actually had been raped but just wanted the charges dropped. in the course of becoming aware of problems like these and attempting to correct them, prosecutorial bodies have acknowledged both the scarcity and preponderance of mitigating circumstances surrounding false allegations.

False crime reports are the same or less with rape/sexual assaults than with homicide, burglary or drug crimes. But why are only victims of sexual assaults the ones who are routinely accused of making their stories up? They're the only ones treated with suspicion compared to victims of other kinds of crime.

And with regards to Sano specifically,

Miguel Sano’s accuser will talk with Major League Baseball. Sometime in the next 24 hours, Major League Baseball will reach out to Betsy Bissen, the woman who Thursday accused Minnesota Twins star Miguel Sano of assaulting her two years ago at a mall in suburban Minneapolis. After posting her account of the assault on Twitter, Bissen told Yahoo Sports she would speak with investigators from the league and tell her story of the incident in which she said Sano grabbed her wrist and tried to kiss her multiple times after an autograph session.

...according to five people, including teammates, ex-teammates and confidants, with whom he has spent time. Though none accused Sano of sexual assault or could confirm Bissen’s account of the story, they characterized him as someone who saw the pursuit of women as sport. Getting in trouble for it “was only a matter of time,” said one person familiar with Sano, whom he called “a ticking time bomb.”

Women lying to manipulate the system and grab cash from a wealthy man?

I can't possibly understand why anyone would believe that!

I'd be shocked if the "5-10%" figure stood consistent when all the schmucks making 25k a year are thrown out. Maybe it does but I'd guess that the rate of false claims increases as the accused's income level hits certain thresholds.
