I would dip if I were him. Like, he was the dude a year ago and was dealt a crap hand. Now the rewards are ready to be reaped (prospects up to the Majors) and Maddon butts in line. I'd feel slighted. It's a business, but it doesn't have to go down like that.

MLB is going to investigate the Cubs for tampering. If they find that the Cubs did tamper TB can be awarded anyone of the Cubs prospects such as Addison Russell or Javier Baez.Comment

re: MLB Off-Topic
The Rays aren't getting any of their prospects. What nonsense.
Joe Maddon had an out clause in his contract and used it. The Cubs are also not obligated to keep Renteria under any circumstances. Renteria will still get paid from the Cubs regardless of how he was let go. Baseball has no leg to stand on here.
Utterly ridiculous if they're able to grab one of their top guys. The Cubs don't owe the Rays ANYTHING.Comment

re: MLB Off-Topic
The only way it would be tampering is if the Cubs contacted Maddon before he opted out, correct?
If so, that would be pretty difficult to prove I would thinkOriginally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

re: MLB Off-Topic
But i still think the Rays are angry that Joe Maddon left and want to get the Cubs in trouble, but the more i think about it seems taking prospects is way too much punishment
If they do get in trouble and i hope not i expect a fine or maybe a lost Draft pickComment

re: MLB Off-Topic
Usually things like this are difficult to prove, but MLB will look at phone records. Hopefully someone used a burner phone lol. You see Joe Maddon may not have been aware of his opt out clause, but his agent was and as soon as Andrew Friedman left you can bet with 100% certainty that someone contacted Maddon or his agent directly. Whose to say his agent didn't contact anyone first either before Maddon found out about his clause?Comment

MLB Off-Topic 2014
Here's proof that the Rays can't prove tampering or do anything for that matter:
Nero is Maddon's agent.

re: MLB Off-Topic
Not really. TB had been trying to sign him to an extension, but he wanted more money. He also lost his close friend in Andrew Friedman. Chances of him sticking round were slim after 2015. Only way he could have know for sure he'd get that job is if someone contacted him or his agent beforehand. Maddon supposedly had no idea he had an opt out clause.Last edited by ShowTyme15; 11-02-2014, 01:37 PM.Comment

Why are we all assuming tampering? Based on your post it sounds like he was just tired of TB. You disagree?Comment

re: MLB Off-Topic
The interesting thing to me is what his agent said this morning…10 teams contacted them when they heard of the opt out and only the Cubs were willing to fire their manager. Even the Twins, who had an opening still, weren't willing to make an offer. Maybe he's not as valued on the market as we all think he is?"People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball.
