Re: MLB Off-Topic
If you go back make sure you check out the Doubleday Cafe. I had the greatest pulled pork sandwich I've ever had in my entire life there last night. It was amazing. Homemade ice cream too.
I'm doing the HOF museum tomorrow before we leave.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
One of my favorite memories of playing baseball came from winning the aau tournament they have every year in Cooperstown. Playing at Dreams Park and staying in the dorms was awsome. I still have my ring from winning and a wood bat with my signature carved in it from one of the shops in town.
Summer of '05......I'm the brother....

Those batting helmets are an awful sight. I'd prefer they just go to Burger King and get their hats that way.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

If that's what the future of baseball looks like, someone needs to sacrifice themselves and take out Manfred.
Do it for us.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Kris Medlen announced his retirement today. I hate that injuries derailed his career...his 2012 season was SO good. I still believe that that March 8th and 9th of 2014 changed the direction of the Braves' franchise; on back to back days in Spring Training Brandon Beachy and Kris Medlen left their starts and required second TJS. We'll never know how things turn out if they stay healthy and he builds on what he had done so far."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Not sure how many people have The Athletic.
There's an article I found interesting about Judge's swing.
Problem is, I'm not exactly sure what the adjustment was. I'm looking at video from the article and I can't tell if it's implying that the lesson is bringing the whole bat back before swinging or torquing the bat back during the swing.
Anyone read it and can explain?

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I won't copy paste the whole thing. But here are excerpts:
Instead, he begins with a backward shift of the barrel, which runs contrary to virtually all classic swing instruction
That lesson came, indirectly, from Barry Bonds. For years, Schenck retreated to his basement with a bat, a ball, a tee, a net and video camera, which he used to record his attempts to make his own left-handed swing look like Bonds’. For years, he failed.
“I’m doing the old school things: Get your elbow up, push the knob through the ball, or take your hands to the ball, all these different things,” he said. “I couldn’t come close.”
But one day in September 2006, he noticed how the bat barrel created a blur behind Bonds’ head. At first, he chalked it up to superior hand speed moving the bat forward. A closer look revealed something else entirely. He wondered if the speed was generated by launching the swing with a rearward move. When Schenck tested his theory, his stunning conclusion played out on tape.
“Ninety-nine percent of the people that look at it would swear that he’s pushing his hands forward and doing all the typical buzzwords of a swing, that he’s just better at it, that’s what they would say,” Schenck said. “Actually, he’s just doing the exact opposite.”
As the sessions progressed, Judge grew more comfortable with snapping the barrel."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
