Wouldn't it be crazy if Michael Young was the Rangers new manager then...

Really hope Jays know what they're doing.

Teams are firing and hiring managers before Jays even announce the obvious that Gibbons isn't returning.

Well Chavez is an in-house guy as he's been working with the Angels for a while now. It's not like they went outside their organization to grab someone.

Glad to see this! Hopefully he can become a stud 2-way player again sooner than later.

Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani will undergo Tommy John surgery when the offseason starts, the team announced Tuesday.

Anyone think anything could come out of how this season ends up standings wise?

Brewers or Cubs will finish 2nd best in the NL(possibly TIED for 1st) and have to play a WC game. Finish 1st in NL, play 2nd seed in LDS. And a tiebreaker game for the division as well?

And in AL, still a chance the Rays and/or Mariners finish BETTER than Cleveland and MISS the playoffs. Yankees and A's play in WC game, when they're better than a division winner, and one or both could finish with 100 wins. Red Sox reward for finishing 1st in AL, play 100 win team in LDS while Astros finishing 2nd play a 90 win team who might be the 6 seed.

No, unless you're advocating getting rid of leagues for the playoffs so the Red Sox play the NL Wild Card game, I don't see anyway to change the situation. Getting rid of divisions and taking the top 5 teams still means good teams will end up in the wild card game.

Personally, I don't mind the WC game. I've seen some other ideas I don't hate (3 game series with the 1st wild card HFA, 2 game series with double elimination for the loser to advance) but we had our chance to avoid the Wild Card Game by winning the division and we didn't.

Remember when the Cardinals won the World Series in 2006? They had an 83-79 record when they won the NL Central. There shouldn't be any changes.

Yea, Yelich wrapped up the NL MVP race with his last couple games.

I'm soooooooooo happy we fleeced the Marlins for him.

I don't want to hear it...Braves tied for wins with the eventually WS Champs in 2012 and had to play in the wild card only to lose to Sam Holbrook. Why are people going to scream for changes now?

Let's not forget the Yankees won the WS in 2000 with an 87-74 record. You're bound to anomalous results from time to time.

I wouldn't mind HFA every series being determined by record though.

Now you've convinced me that a change might be necessary. If we can prevent the Cardinals from winning the World Series...

MLB now more than ever are looking to change things in the league, you never know what might happen....

Anyways, onto current speculation. Obviously rumors of who Jays next manager will be is gonna be THE story for next while around here.

In the past 20 years, Gibbons has been only guy who has finished 3+ seasons. They've gone through 8(9 after this one) managerial changes in 20 years. So having this search, it's for sure gonna be for a guy who'll be here for the long haul which is rare to see with Jays, which sucked given they had a stretch of Bobby Cox, Jimmy Williams then Cito Gaston before this slump.

Most interesting name I heard was Stubby Clapp. Never heard him as a possible candidate before. A big name on Canadian baseball circuit for so long as a player, and has had huge success as manager in AAA(back to back PCL championships, manager of the year and baseball americas minor league manager of the year). Even a combo of Clapp and Schneider as coaches would be great for Jays. One as MLB manager, other as bench coach or something like that.
