He said as of today, they aren't even CLOSE to 3/4 of the owners wanting the DH...so it doesn't matter what the player's union pushes for, if the owners don't want it it isn't happening.
No one thought the change was imminent. The entire point of the union warming up to it is that they would then work on convincing the owners. I don't know why you think what the union wants doesn't matter, but I very much disagree and think if they get to a place where they overwhelmingly want a universal DH, it will absolutely matter. Owners not wanting to jump out of their shoes to shake things up and having to react to union wants are different situations.

...and that's fine. I'm just telling you what Manfred said today; he was pretty adamant that the status quo will not be changing anytime soon.

I'm glad that the other valid seventeen points that I made to refrain from a DH in the NL were completely ignored, whilst my one overexaggerated snippet about good hitting pitchers with a small sample size is being scrutinized under a microscope.

The big one has pretty much been mentioned here, but look... fans of NL teams do not want the DH, and trust me they know what it means to have one. AL fans decide to push their agenda onto us and it's just really not needed. It's like if The Show converted all of its offline modes into online modes, or if a restaurant ditched its breakfast menu in favor of only lunch and dinner all day long. Don't take away a piece of us because you can't wrap your head around its glory, even if it's in distinction alone.

Unless, of course, you can convince him this will get him the pitch clock and a half-dozen other pace of play rules installed. Then he will be the MLBPA's ally in lobbying the owners.

Seems pretty entrenched to me and I don't see a need to change it. Let AL fans have their style and NL fans also.
I'm an NL fan and have shifted to be in favor of the DH.

Maybe you agree. Maybe you don't. But I still find it weird for the commish to talk about the game's best player openly like this.

Nothing really per se but it's not a good look when the commissioner is openly saying that the best player in the game is resistant to marketing himself and by extension the game.

Telling Trout that simply being the best player (or 2nd best depending on Barry Bonds) in our lifetimes is simply not enough. Doing it while he's starring in the All-Star game. Doing it publicly at all is a bad look for the sport.

Definitely is a little weird....I feel like this whole player marketing thing is a little overblown. I heard Colin Cowherd make the point that MLB and NHL both tend to place more emphasis on the importance of team (makes sense given how important it is to have a well balanced team in order to succeed in both leagues). I don't know if marketing star players better will bring new fans to the game. To me baseball is fine the way it is (there will always be adjustments to combat whatever the newest trend is) and if people don't like it....oh well. I get how that isn't an acceptable opinion to have for the commissioner of the game, but the popularity of baseball in the US doesn't really bother me

He was asked specifically about Trout's marketing potential and why he isn't a bigger star. He didn't say it's not OK to just be a great baseball player, he said that's not enough to be a superstar.

I guess it depends on what the question was. The article I linked didn't quote that. I still wish the commissioner had focused on Trout's accomplishments as worthy of being a superstar rather than what he isn't doing in consultation with Madison Avenue.

I see no issues in what Manfred said. It's been said for a few years that Trout isn't into the marketing aspect of being a celebrity.

Watching and listening to Lindor during the All Star Game was a treat, talk about having genuine fun playing the game.

The talk with Trout was good too earlier in the game, I like that it’s an exhibition again and they can do these things.
