Maybe it's not universal in high school, but a lot of the more successful programs in Illinois have pitchers who just pitch unless they are also stud hitters. So specialization is at the very least leaking down into high school and little league baseball

I'd say it's much closer to rare than common. You may have s team with one or two pitcher only's. High school teams don't have 25 man rosters, so you can't really afford to have guys that only do one thing. Travel ball you're much more likely to see it

Unless you can prove that the DH leads to quicker pace of play, that **** ain't happening.

These stats don't take into account pitch counts(like having 2 strikes with a walk, or a 2-2 count and getting a hit), but those averages are based on the minimum number of pitches each position has faced:
DHs have faced over 8200 pitches in their 6180 plate appearances
Pitchers have faced over 4500 pitches in their 3091 plate appearances

Where are we getting that the DH to the NL is gaining steam? I listened to the roundtable with Manfred and he absolutely stated at least 3 times that the status quo is going to be here to stay, that he likes having two different rules for the leagues, and that the overwhelming majority of the owners like it that way. He said he didn't see it changing anytime soon...this was straight from his own mouth.

I find it telling that the guys saying we need universal DH are fans of the Yankees, Blue Jays, and Red Sox. Those saying let's leave it like it is are fans of the Cubs, Reds, Phillies, and Giants.

Seems pretty entrenched to me and I don't see a need to change it. Let AL fans have their style and NL fans also.

To break up the DH convo a little bit.

The Padres are considering going to Brown full time in 2020.

Here's some of the possible options.

If they did that then the Pirates should go back to their seemingly million and one combinations like they did in the '70s.

Tony Clark mentioned that it's gaining momentum among the players with more of them wanting the NL to adopt the DH. Alternatively, Verlander would prefer the DH stay out of the NL because "I like pitching to guys like me that can't hit."

Well, Manfred explained something in that round table that I didn't realize. He said that when the DH was put in place, they wrote a special rule into the MLB constitution that stated in order for the rule to go away in the AL or to be added in the NL, 3/4 of the owners have to approve it (normally for rule changes it only takes a majority).

He said as of today, they aren't even CLOSE to 3/4 of the owners wanting the DH...so it doesn't matter what the player's union pushes for, if the owners don't want it it isn't happening.
