If he truly think Rivera didn't belong in the HOF, he would have submitted his ballot without voting for him. I don't think the save number should detract from him opting whether or not to do that.
I'm not really sure the point he's trying to make which is also why my point is all over the place.

Rivera is the worst example to use in trying to speak against the save. He should have used Lee Smith (which many voters pretty much already did).

I just don't get what he's trying to prove because what he says doesn't match his actions.

I personally think his point in using Rivera is to be heard as loudly as possible. Admit it, we wouldn't be talking about him if he used Lee Smith instead. After all, he did gloss right by Hoffman (not sure which way he voted for him, but I'll guess he didn't vote for him).

It's the wrongest one to straw man with, though. You're not making your case look better by using him, but you certainly are getting more attention that way.

Gee thanks, now my post is even MORE trivial.

Anywho, I think this is the first public statement of the ballot process so far and with 24.3% of the public votes out here are who would be in the HOF if voting ended today:

            Rivera 100%
            Halladay 94%
            Edgar 90%
            Mussina 82%

Still a long way to go but it's awesome to see Doc so high up there.

Harold Baines got in without really deserving it, but I think his inclusion helps Edgar out substantially. I'd be ok if all 4 of those guys made it (and I am generally on the 'small hall' side of things). Plus, Clemens and Bonds of course. Just do it already.

Tommy Pham boldly talking about how much he liked St. Louis compared to Tampa.

It sucks going from playing in front of a great fanbase to a team with really no fanbase at all. St. Louis, they're one of the few teams to where day in day out they have 40,000 fans at every game.
I mean, he's certainly not wrong.

That's like me telling my girlfriend how much better my ex was at everything.

"Babe, it sucks that I'm not with her anymore. To go from a girl that was perfect in almost every way, to where I am now."

That depends. Is it straight up, or is international slot money changing hands as well? Or a PTBNL?

This happens all the time though...someone dies early and they are remembered better than they were. I agree though; I'd take Mussina's career over Halladay's and it's incredible that Mussina has been on the ballot for 5 years and Halladay is going to sale in on his first try, death or no death.

I can see your grievances and naturally Halladay is getting the "he died young" bump but I do think overall he's better than Mussina. That being said, Mussina shouldn't be wilting on the vine like he is right now. The guy played his entire career in the AL East during the heart of the Steroid Era. He put up some GREAT numbers.

Of course i'm biased toward Halladay but even before he died I thought he's a 1st or 2nd year guy for enshrinement.
