Sergio Santos a former infielder with the Jays organization before he converted to a pitcher with the White Sox. Sure enough he ended up back with the Jays for a bit before he lost control. (Pitching wise of course)

Unrelated to MLB, but I remember when I tried out for the San Diego Adult Baseball League, I was drafted in the first round as a third baseman. I told the coaches later: "Um, last time I played third base I was missing some front teeth" (age-related, not injury-related lol). I'm an outfielder, damn it! Could pitch, but was pretty much primarily a center fielder. I guess they were impressed by what they saw me do at third base as well.

Anyway, to name-drop, Garry Templeton's son was on our team, and we also squared up against Steve Finley in that league, who ironically was pitching when we faced him instead of his regular outfield duties.

I played 2B in little league but was converted to 3B when my coach's son (who was a scrub compared to me; I was an "All-Star" at the keystone) wanted to play 2B....does that count as interesting? I didn't think so

We also went undefeated in the regular season and then lost 1-0 in the title game. A game that was being umped by the opposing starter's dad...Let's just say if it was in the dirt, you were swinging.

On flip side, sometimes these position changes fail.

I was a pitcher and had been for years. Good enough that I'd even get praised by people in the crowd.

In HS I made varsity in my first year. In final year I was expecting to pitch exclusively, and coaches(who of course were teachers, even ones I had and liked) couldn't care less about coaching. Last minute notifications practices, everything just improvised. They didn't have me pitching 1 bit so I quit. They lost every single game that season. True story.

Lol little league. Sure, parent volunteers are nice, but you know there's shady business going on.

One guy who was president of my league had a kid in the league. He'd also ump some games and was good friends with some coaches(people you'd legitimately expect to see him having a beer with away from the field). As a pitcher you knew his strike zone was really low. I liked it because I could easily get people out with my ankle high strike calls. But at same time, his calls you'd know were in favour of his friends and kids.

His kid was also a pitcher and we'd have an indirect rivalry. Not in a hate sense, just a respect "I can top that" way. We were even teammates one year and that was the easiest season I ever played. You basically just had 2 starters pitching every game while having the president and occasional ump on your side.

Outside of that season though, best I could put it was that he was Mr McMahon and I was stone cold. I was face of the league, but get screwed by weird decisions from boss. My coaches happened to be the few who weren't friends with him, so it was always fun when we got last laugh, which was often (yes, I was that good a pitcher. Coaches could put up a 0 on the scoresheet before I went to the mound... Barring bad defence). My team even lost a game on a walkoff steal because of that guy.

Yeah, I don't really believe that tbh. No way a baseball player, any baseball player, sells more shirts than a soccer player. Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid would be my bet, by quite a large margin.

Unless they mean just Majestic jerseys? If so, then that sounds more plausible

That sounds a little fishy to me. I'd believe it if it was just baseball.

Apparently the Dbacks are removing the dirt path from the pitchers mound to the plate after all. They said they were going to keep it, but I guess it didn't workout?

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

If they're eliminating the dirt path then they need to round off the area in front of the plate.

This is a bad development IMO. Oh well, at least Comerica has the path

It was practically inviting mound visits from the catcher. How are they supposed to resist when the dirt takes them right there?

                              Good decision by Manfred.
