Three batter minimum? Forcing teams to designate titles to players and telling them how to use their players?

Gee, can't wait to be lectured about how we'll "forget this even exists in a few weeks!" once those get implemented.

This is why lines in the sand are drawn, folks.

If the union agrees to this than they've sold themselves down the river just because they hate the pitch clock. A lot of these proposals are way too much and unnecessary. (though one trade deadline IS a good idea)

Hate the idea of a 26th roster spot tbh, the last thing the game needs is yet more relievers, as that's all it would be. one extra reliever making league minimum isn't exactly a great "get" for the players either.

The thing I'd push for as a union is replacing the silly renewal phase and instead just raising the league minimum salary to the very neat $1.62m (10k per game you're up). That obviously would better compensate players in their first few years, but also would have a huge knock on effect in the sense it would be essentially raising the wage floor of each team to about $40m, while obviously increasing the appeal of lower end free agents as the jump from $1.6m to $2-3m isn't nearly as steep as the current $500k for your disposable slave players.

The 28 player September roster limit sounds like another form of prospect suppression since owners likely realize they won't win the delayed promotion fight.

If they don’t limit the number of September callups then they need to impose a limit on the number of players who can “dress” for the game. The way the game has evolved when managers get their hands on all those extra relievers we start to see the “1 pitcher=1 batter” nonsense ramped up.

Also I have zero problems with a pitch clock but think the 3 batter minimum is a stupid idea.

I’m a supporter of the pitch clock but these other proposals are pointless and harmful. The pitch clock would have next to no effect in most situations: it helps to corral the outliers that can make a game slog to a halt. But labeling players? 3 batter minimum? Come on!!! And god forbid these things are enforced with in game punishments. I think this is a negotiation tactic to make the player’s association choose between something they don’t want and something they really don’t want.

Legitimately, the only thing that scares me about keeping it at 25 is if we get some more 15-inning games where we start hearing about new extra innings rules proposals again like placing a runner on 2nd base. For me, extra players on the roster doesn't have to mean they'll all be active for that particular game/series, if that helps.

Plus, don't players on the 40-man get paid league minimum regardless? (I don't actually know that answer)

Sort of off topic, but College Baseball (at least at the D3 Level) is enforcing a 120 second between inning clock, where the pitcher not being ready results in a ball, and the hitter not being ready results in a strike.

Seems unnecessary to me....its not like many people come to D3 baseball games and complain about pace of play

                        So no warmups?

Do pitchers hit in college? I assume if so not many so maybe not an issue. But if they do, I'm not having my pitcher run back from second base to take a breather and be ready to pitch in two minutes.

Leave that for the rest of us playing in adult leagues.

That 2 minute period is for their warmups. It shouldn't take 2 minutes for a guy to throw a maximum of 8 pitches. And if you have a pitcher on base you bring him out his hat and glove like you see happen for any OFer or whatever.

Despite my repeated requests I was not allowed to hit in D3 when I pitched.

That said, this is a very short turnaround for a catcher on base. Can’t just bring him his cap.

I have to imagine there is a provision for that.

That makes sense. I was mostly concerned with the catcher and being a hitter that pitches.

Two minutes works so long as those two things are either not part of the equation or there is an extension of time for a catcher to put on gear.

The two minutes thing has been in place for all college games for a while (except those on TV). I had season tickets to Purdue baseball the last two years and they put the count down on the scoreboard in between innings. It's two minutes on the nose and they enforce it. The players have to really move, but the pitchers get their warm ups in no problem.

When their game was on TV that all went out the window...the players would be standing around waiting to play and waiting to come back from a commercial.
