It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

Blzer has recognized how selfish it sounds, though.

It’s just looking at the same problem and having different opinions on it. I just see extended netting as inevitable, so cut the **** and just install them.

They’re waiting for someone to die, or die in such a way that it will force change. Just like some of the dangerous plays we see in the NFL or NHL (although that involves the players). It just feels like a ticking time bomb.

We know the danger is there, and they can say they tried in some ways, but it’s minimizing, not eliminating.

I hate that someone‘s family will have to live with the fact that something could have been done to prevent a death, but because it just wasn’t a big enough probability, it got pushed. Makes me a bit sick that a life is not being prioritized for aesthetics and “that’s the way it’s been.”

He has, that I agree with. He then follows it up with ridiculous examples of "maybe we should make all the fans wear helmets." "Maybe we should fence the entire field in."

Loses credibility with me when you say that and then resort to hyperbole.

For me it's more about the kids. Not that adults aren't important too. But protecting a kid from a liner.

You're right I personally am gonna go to a game regardless of netting. But I don't think it's a bad idea to have more netting for others.

          This isn't about me.

Moving to a different, slightly less controversial topic.

Umpires are as bad at calling balls/strikes as it seems

Botched calls and high error rates are rampant. MLB home plate umpires make incorrect calls at least 20% of the time – one in every five calls. In the 2018 season, MLB umpires made 34,246 incorrect ball and strike calls for an average of 14 per game, or 1.6 per inning. Last season, 55 games – 2.2% of the total played – ended with an incorrect call.

When batters had two strikes, the error rate for all umpires increased – incorrect calls happen 29% of the time, almost double the error rate when the batter had one or no strikes.

I'm going to go ahead and say no, the undershirts are the player's and they're not mandated to wear them. Players with non-nike endorsement deals don't wear the Nike undershirts for the most part

I get that umpiring is bad (edit: I meant hard. Umpiring is hard) and I don't like talking down a job I've never done (though I'm sure we've all been players at the wrong end of it), but this is unacceptable. 1 out of 5?

The argument used to be, "well, they are MLB umpires. They still get 9 out of 10 right." But now it's not even true. They are getting 20% of the calls wrong. 20%!

I don't want to compare it to my job where I know what would happen if I was wrong 20% of the time, but something has to be improved. Something has to change.

These guys are getting 3rd strike calls wrong 30% of the time.

                    Re: MLB Off-Topic

It makes sense that if an umpire is calling a wide zone all game, he’s going to get a lot of calls “wrong” but they’ll feel right during the game, even to the players, because it’s been established.

So I don’t completely buy the 20% stat. But I’m damn glad we can see this data and we shouldn’t ignore it.

As for the umpiring thing I agree with slickdtc there are times when an umpire will have a wide or tight zone that feels right within the flow of the game. All I ask for is CONSISTENCY. So that 20% can sound awfully high but I don't nearly buy into it either. Still, the data is valuable. I'd start to worry if calls are deemed wrong more than 20% of the time though. That number seems to be a good enough threshold.

Obviously they are not going to be perfect. But that's pretty terrible. One thing that needs to be implemented in all sports is a reprimand and a reward system for officials.

Of course you don't fire a guy if he calls a bad game. But they need to hold the umpires to a higher standard. Players get ejected for arguing balls and strikes. But umpires can miss 20% of the calls and thats fine?

Change the guard or get more serious with this. Better umpires should get paid more and get bonuses. Just a thought.
