Last report says Ortiz is already out of surgery and will be okay...Red Sox have offered up an ambulance plane to go get him and bring him to Boston.

Never was a fan of Ortiz, but still sucks to see stuff like this. At least he is in stable condition now.

I just saw the video, that didn't look like a robbery at all. Dude didn't have time to ask for anything, came behind him and the coward just shot him in the back.

Won't post the video, but you can find it if you want to.

              Cant believe that!

Sucks to see it happen to anyone, but Ortiz of all guys? He's one of(if not the) most likable guys in baseball ever.

              Really hope he's ok.

Hope Ortiz is okay. Saw the video. Just disturbing. Not to be political, but you know the United States has its issues with gun violence. But it's not on this magnitude. Where athletes can just get gunned down for nothing.

It's hard to tell guys they can't go back home. But man if you value your life. You had better be cautious.

Jeez, just a straight up murder attempt.....That's scary as hell.

Hopefully he'll come out of this okay but the nature of the gunshot tells me that even if he does come out of this alright he may never be the same. I have no desire to see the video so i'm just going by what you guys are saying.

He was with a popular Dominican singer. They are not sure if Ortiz or the singer was the intended target of the hit.

I'm surprised if Ortiz was the target, only because the assailant didn't do very much to assure his attempt. I am so relieved this guy failed at what he was trying to do if everyone ends up recovering from their injuries here.

You're right, SPTO... I really do hope he comes okay from this. If I'm Ortiz, I'm afraid of what's going on behind me for the rest of my life. Maybe coming back to the U.S. and staying will be the best thing he can do from here.

I saw the video this morning, what a piece of ****.

Ortiz incurred some damage to his liver and had to have his gall bladder as well as parts of his colon removed as a result of the shooting, per Rivera and Rojas. Rivera adds that Ortiz is currently in intensive care but still considered to be in stable condition.

So the latest news is that Ortiz was a victim of a hitman hired by a drug kingpin because Ortiz had an affair with the kingpin's wife.

                          What a crazy *** story.

What's the source? Who is the kingpin? What of the wife/mistress? Will this continue? I thought these kinds of things only happened in movies.

I also saw video of the gunman after he was identified, being mistreated by civilians. What about law enforcement there? Why was he still accessible to others physically berating him long after the shooting? I'm not certain I know about how things exactly work in the DR regarding that. Or maybe that video was taken immediately after, and police were still en route.
