    Re: MLB Off-Topic

If I could have my pick of any 8 in baseball for the Home Run Derby, I'd take:

    Khris Davis
    Giancarlo "Mike" Stanton
    Aaron Judge
    Mike Trout
    Kyle Schwarber
    Rhys Hoskins
    Joey Gallo
    Pete Alonso

Maybe I'd take Bellinger or Yelich over one of those Yankees because they've been hurt, but only if it screws up Yelich's swing for the 2nd half of the season.

No Yankees for the HRD, please pick as many Astros and Red Sox's as you like.

Another bad look for the Mets lately. I swear every NY team except the Yankees aren’t actually trying to win championships and are instead in a competition of their own to see who can be the dumbest and the biggest joke. Mets are finally answering back to the Giants, Jets, and Knicks strong. Who’s turn is it next? Rangers? Nets about to jump back in on this? Or does it go back to the Giants?

Should be at least a bit of a challenge to outdo this latest Mets drama.

I'd add the Rangers and Nets to that list with the Yankees. At least the Rangers recognized their window and rebuilt at about the right time. Suddenly, they went from potentially being awful to having some real promise again. Nets are technically NY now so I have to throw them a bone for building the smart way.

Nets have one of the most promising situations in the NBA. Knicks shook off 2 decades of disaster and reset with young players, draft picks, and cap space. The Islanders lost their best player and got better. Don't ever disrespect the Rangers.

Glass is half full. Football is doomed.

On the Mets situation directly, sounds like they're doing what we do with Boone, they just aren't discrete.

Pretty sure Yelich would exit after the first time since the competition isn't being held at Miller

Is the plan in Tampa Bay to just poison the well until you have no other option but to leave? I don't understand what they're trying to do. The owner says allowing Tampa Bay fans to "have it all to their own" is not an option given the levels of support...

How many Rays fans are thinking the same thing about him?

Rays owner doing a press conference about the split city team.

Says its not about a way to move the team. If this split deal happens, it'll be in 2024.

Beyond just improving their own attendance, the way they're selling it to the locals is that this could increase tourism with Canadians coming down for March/April and maybe even longer.

If MLB ever does expand, would it happen before 2024? If this happens, Montreal would wind up with a half team and probably no chance of getting the Rays until 2028 at earliest if the team did a full move after the lease.

I don't think you can blame the Mets. They made moves this offseason. Cano is just a shell of himself. Sad to see. Cespedes is done. They can't get Syndergaard right. They built that team around pitching and the injuries just devastated a once promising rotation. Harvey, Thor, Degrom, Wheeler. Injuries killed that dream.

And minus Alonso the kids haven't been special. Rosario has underwhelmed.

It's not easy. You look at teams like the Phillies and Padres. That went out and tried to put playoff caliber teams together. And it just hasn't really happened. Sometimes it be like that.

Injuries can ruin a season. Minus KC, Baltimore, Detroit, Miami, Toronto, San Francisco. Most teams tried to improve imo.

Yea, I don’t think the way to sell this to the locals is to tell them they will get more than what they already have more than enough of.

Regarding the Rays stadium, the census around here is that if they are seriously entertaining the two city deal then just take the team.

It’s to many egos and finger pointing on all sides right now. Sternberg is turning fans off and after his interview today, seriously decreased his chances of getting taxpayers to build him a stadium, and Pinellas County Mayor is playing hardball and is set on keeping the team in St Pete.

The team will never draw the crowd they want in St Pete. I try to go to as many games as I can on weekends because tickets are so cheap, but Work/School nights are a no go for me like many others. Games ending at 10-1030 then you have to drive back across the bridge tired and not getting home until at least 12.

The lease I feel will be the big thing holding up everything.

If Rays did move, regardless to Montreal, split city deal, or even just TB somehow fulltime, what would it cost to get out of that lease at Tropicana? Seems like even the mayor in St. Petersburg is strongly against all of this.

Is it just me but does anyone think the Rays ownership cares if fans stop coming to games? They weren't coming anyway.

Out of nowhere the Nats announced on July 6th they'll wear throwback jerseys in a game vs the Royals. The throwback...the original Expos jerseys.

They say it's for the 50th anniversary of the franchise, but I wonder if it had something to do with this announcement. Nats haven't cared 1 bit about their Expos history since they moved, but out of nowhere they are doing an Expos throwback, on a random date, vs a team with no meaning to all this. I'm guessing if Montreal gets a team back, Nats won't let them get their history back and will profit on the old Expos merchandise.

At very least could've just done it July 2nd (since they don't play July 1st).

It's the 50th anniversary. That's why. It isn't out of nowhere. Just because they waited until now to announce it, doesn't mean they waited until the Tampa Bay stuff to do it.
