    Re: MLB Off-Topic

Opening Day of the 2020 season will be March 26th.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Getting his jersey retired will be quite a thrill for Will Clark.
Yeah I started watching baseball well after he had been traded to Texas, so I feel like I am one of the few people who thinks of him as much as a Ranger as a Giant. That 1996 Rangers team was pretty dope.

I think a lot of baseball fans also probably forget about Clark's time in Texas even though he played about half his career in SF and half in TEX. For me, that 1989 playoff series between the Cubs and Giants has forever seared him into my brain as a Giant and Cub-killer. He had one of the best postseason series that I think anyone ever has. He made that series a total bummer for a very fun Sandberg/Grace/Dawson/Maddux/Sutcliffe/RoY Jerome Walton team. Didn't carry over to the World Series so the Giants ended up getting thrashed by the A's. But still

I just don't see any really attractive alternative options for the Cubs. They could go the trendy route and hire a young(ish) recently retired player (Mark Loretta is currently the bench coach so he'd likely be considered), but for every Craig Counsell and Aaron Boone there is a Gabe Kapler and a Mickey Callaway (I don't mean to trash those guys there's just been a decent amount of disappointment there).
          Kapler is horrendous. Trash away.

John Mallee is fired as Phillies hitting coach and replaced by Charlie Manuel. Hell yes.

It's worth mentioning people hated Boone last year so even if it seems like the guy you hire is terrible you might change your mind.

New York State just passed a law banning workplace discrimination on the basis of facial hair, calling the New York Yankees' hair policy into question.

But they're not being "denied" the job. They're just being told the policy if they do sign with the team.

A little different than McDonald's saying they're not gonna hire someone because they've got pink and green hair.

I think the Yankees also ought to shy away from tattooed players, players with long hair, I mean, if they're serious about image. Also, they should avoid players with personality. Preferably they'd only sign robuts.

Oh I know, I don't see that changing anything.

I don't see any MLB player taking them to court over the policy.

That hair rule imo is so outdated. Not just Yankees wise, but in general.

I can understand not wanting someone walking around looking like Brent Burns(google him), but being strict on it when you're not working in the food industry is weird.

Same with piercings and tattoos. As long as it's not overboard, is it a problem?

In this day and age, its becoming more common seeing workplaces let up on these types of rules. Even clothes wise, some places becoming more casual (more the smaller startup companies, where you can come in with a tshirt and jeans)

At one point, the Reds had the same policy.

They were so serious about it, they took the mustache off Mr. Redlegs.

In-N-Out Burger has that policy with their employees. Hell, girls can't even wear their hair down or have earrings on.

But of course, that is a different workplace than a baseball field, much like a credit union is as well.
