There were 7 other teams in the AL at that point, so he saw roughly 5.5 pitchers/team during his streak. JBJ is on pace to see roughly 8 pitchers/team. On one hand, I think it's that much more impressive for a modern player since there are SO many different pitchers they might face than in 1941.

Hector Olivera gets the book thrown at him, suspended 82 games via the domestic abuse policy.

Just another bad incident for what has been a truly horrific season for the Braves.

Kind of weird that it's only retro active to April 30th instead of his arrest on April 13th. What am I missing? He'll basically end up suspended 99 games since the first 18 games or so don't count.

I was wondering the same thing. The only thing I can figure out is they just wanted to suspend him through July.

I wonder if they want him suspended through the trade deadline...it just seems odd. I can't recall seeing a suspension not retroactive to when the player actually was suspended.

Wait, I just heard they're removing the act of pitching the four intentional walk balls?

What the hell? If this is to save time, why do players even run the bases after a home run? After all, we gotta keep those eighteen year-old kids interested in this game right??

I think many of us agree it doesn't make sense as it doesn't speed up the game much at all.

I hate it because the intentional walk isn't ALWAYS a surefire thing with no consequences. There have been times when pitchers have tried to IBB a guy and he uncorks a wild pitch or in an extreme case the hitter actually takes a hack at it and gets a base hit. It also can add a little bit of uncertainty as well because sometimes a pitcher can get so out of rhythm doing an IBB that he can't find the plate for the next 3-4 hitters and put himself into a real bind.

This really takes some of the unpredictability and "anything can happen" aspect of baseball away.

I'm okay with them doing away with it. What's the percentage of something odd happening?
I know it's cool when it occurs, but it's so infrequent, I'm not sure it matters.

But I think MLB is barking up the wrong tree when looking for ways to speed the game up.
The umps need carte blanche in signaling when a pitch needs to be thrown.
I watch a recent Napoli at-bat and he had to check his gloves between every pitch. At one point, Quintana was on the mound just waiting for him to finish his dumb ritual.
If I was the ump, I signal him to throw and tell Napoli to STFU and stay in the box if he doesn't like it.
I swear, I think banning batting gloves would probably help erase 30 minutes from every game alone.

You do have a point that it's very infrequent but to take away ANY chance of it happening is a bit much however you are right that it's barking up the wrong tree. I completely agree with you on umpires needing carte blanche to get hitters ready to bat. I thought with the new rule regarding being in the box would move things along but really, it's the same old crap. Have we even seen a situation where a pitcher was able to throw a pitch and get an automatic strike which was part of the rule if the batter took too long?

There's no tangible benefit to taking out throwing intentional walk pitches. If your argument is that rarely anything special happens, I'd counter how often are the 4 pitches of an intentional walk something you feel is slowing the game down? It's just an aesthetics thing to me I guess. If we're going to have the pitcher point to first and the guy doesn't even have to get in the box it just looks stupid. Bryce can sit Indian style in the on deck circle with no bat and just wait for the signal. Just makes no sense.
