      Aww man...

Great pitcher, always smiling, great guy. Bright stars taken too soon, like Clemente.

I am crying now. This is just unreal. A child will now grow up without a father. Just so sad. 24 years old man...life is precious.

The good news is there's no indication of drugs or alcohol.

The bad news is nobody on the boat was wearing a life vest.

Don't think life jackets would have made a difference. It seems speed was a factor, and I bet the autopsy will show massive traumatic injuries was cause of death here.

Probably the biggest in the MLB since Thurman Munson of the Yankees in 79, maybe biggest in north American pro sports since Pelle Lindbergh(top goalie in the NHL on the Flyers in the 80s) in 1985.

Either way, sad news. Already one of top pitchers in baseball, and likely would've won the cy young at some point in his career.

Marlins game cancelled as everyone knows, but Dolphins game still happening, so I'm sure they'll do some special pregame tribute for him.

David Ortiz told the Rays not to do their ceremony for himself. Classy move.

I already did my condolences in the other thread so i'll just address this.

I would say they're of similar profile. Bostock was one of the early (and biggest) recipients of the benefits of free agency. He was also a guy that you could term a late bloomer. When he went to Anaheim he actually donated his salary to people who needed it. He'd get TONS of requests and would personally decide who to give money to. His first season in Anaheim wasn't the greatest mainly because he felt the pressure to be worth the money he was making but he was starting to come back around. I'd say by '79 he'd be back to his normal self.

Jose Fernandez is an all world talent but a guy who had some question as per health and his maturity. He was truly on the cusp of being one of the best pitchers in baseball in every aspect. As I said in the other thread I think over the next couple years he'd have gotten everything together and truly be lights out.

Still this is tragic, and when I heard it was a boating accident my mind immediately raced to Steve Olin and Tim Crews. (Bobby Ojeda was on the boat too but survived)

I am so sad. I feel like a family member passed away even though I never knew Jose. I'm still in shock and find myself on the verge of tears when reading some of the statements. Rest easy Jose, you'll be playing with the all time greats now.

Marlins team press conference and live shots of the mound at Marlins Park were too much to take. Absolutely gut wrenching.

I honestly don't even know what to say, RIP Jose.

Such a phenomenal talent nobody will ever get to see again, his family will never get to see again, and his kid will never get to see ever. What an awful day for sports, and his family's life.

I am shocked to hear of Jose's passing, much like everyone else's. This kid had such talent, and he became one of my favorite pitchers in the league. I am on the brink of tears just thinking about this...
